I agree with this. Since 1980's the Republican Party has combined reactionaries and right wing radicals. A conservative wants to defend the status quo. This is a conservative attitude, expressed by President Eisenhower:

Since 1980 the Republican Party, when it has been in power, has advocated major changes. That is not conservative.

Currently Republicans have become born again believers in fiscal responsibility. They did not complain when Bush II cut taxes while starting two wars. There was nothing moderate or cautious about doing that.

There is no question but that Jesus was being very literal and plain-speaking; he really did mean that you had more chance of pushing a stonking great camel through a hole 1/16th of an inch wide.
