It was obviously an either/or scenario, because it seemed obvious (to me at least) that in a situation where the participants are responsible and tested to be sure everybody's clean, condoms would be redundant, and thus only used by the paranoid or the ignorant.

Condoms are a stop-gap measure, they don't protect you from everything, and they're far less reliable than blood tests and hormonal birth control. Thus, as professionals it is the latter that is employed.

I should have said, a porn set that relies on condoms is much less safe than one that doesn't.

I've always really disliked condoms. I mean, I mostly watch lesbian porn anyway where condoms would kinda be redundant, but if I ever saw a lesbian porno using dental dams, I'd never watch anything from that company ever again. I've never used them and I don't want to have to see them.

While condoms are kinda necessary (some std's take months to show up on a test), it doesn't change my opinion about how unsexy they are. I don't use condoms with my partner (we're both clean, tested and faithful) and I don't want to see them in something that's meant to be a fantasy.
