I have gone hungry and I am glad I did.
I know exactly how much £1 is worth.

I have some VERY priviledged friends and aquaintances and they are fantastic.They all seem to realise how fortunate they are and most of them would hate to be seen to be living off someone elses sweat,and work even harder as a consequence.

I can't begin to tell you how wealthy one guy is,but I do know that you would never pick him out,he is so rich and intelligent he has nothing to prove to anyone.

I wear a Rolex because it is the best and I earned it.(I don't give a shit what anyone else thinks,it's just my watch.)
He wears a Rolex because his Dad gave it to him,the value is unimportant,it was a gift.

It is the man, not the money.

 

So will I, even though he's interpreted the situation completely wrong.

I don't know how many people actually want to get into the same stupid shit over and over again but I'm not one of them. The difference is that even if I don't respond, there's always more than one person coming out of nowhere to talk the same shit. It's fucking ridiculous.

 

I and newtz and most others are seeing this from outside the box, just leave your comment at the "so will i" and you'll be ok- short and sweet-
Saying things like the rest of that will just be one more reason for someone to come on here and start harassing you- and we're trying to avoid that.

 

What really upsets me, is how a person can judge another person for growing up in a family that is considered "privileged". If your parents work hard to have what they get, and get paid nicely for their many years of working at the same company, and work hard for all the promotions, then why should the kids suffer for the parents being rich?

And then, when your parents are rich, why do people automatically assume that you are rich as well? It is something that I have never understood. If your parents are rich, it does not mean that you are rich as well. All it means is that your parents are rich. It does not mean that you have access to their accounts, or their money.

 

I guess I'm a bit shell-shocked. That just seems so out of this world for me. Hah.

But - and again, I don't mean this to be an attack - what will you do when college runs out and you don't know how to cook? I'm assuming that the cleaning part is merely lacking motivation, as it's not hard to tidy up.

Do you have any kind of plan as to how to get by, or is this just a "When it gets here, then I'll deal with it" kinda approach to cooking?

I might disapprove of the rich and their wasteful life of excess, but when you get down to it, it's none of my business. All the people who criticize and denigrate the Paris Hilton's of the world secretly wish they could live that life, even for a day. So a lot of the resentment is born of jealousy, nothing more.

I grew up poor and also know the value of a dollar and my goal at this stage in my life is not to be rich but to be comfortable and secure and be able to provide a good life for my son and any other children I might have. If I were to ever strike it rich somehow, I know enough not to be crass about it and I know not to lavish my son with all the wasteful things but, as was already shared, to let him grow up knowing he's got to earn his way, just like everyone else.

Fair point, Kimiko, Ms. Hilton has done some inane, infantile things.

Shake has made good points though. if you have limited resources it's difficult to imagine not having to get up early to go to work; not having a ferrari to drive; not being able to buy almost anything you want.

A lotta ppl would love to be in a rich person's shoes; to denegrate them is to show negative emotion, chief amongst which must be jealousy. IMO

I certainly wouldn't mind being wealthy. I think what puts people off about people like Paris Hilton is that kids who are raised that way often seem to have no value system at all. That's a danger.

 

my family is right smack in the middle. we always had average food, (nice) cars because my dad was a fan of building hot rods, and we had traditions that i loved. such as going out to dinner every friday, even if it was mcdonalds. then we'd head to toys r us for a new barbie doll (they were 3 bucks back in the 80's). i took dance lessons, played soccer, and did everything a normal kid does.

i'm glad i wasn't rich, i got to enjoy the really simple things in life and it's made me the person i am today, and i'm glad i wasn't poor.


as for paris hilton, i watched an interview one time with her old friend nicole richie. she was adopted by lionel richie, so she was obviously rich. her answer to growing up with money, maids, cooks, vacations, anything she wanted was, "i don't know any different. just like if you're poor, you don't know anything different."

if i was rich, i always said i'd open up a homeless shelter, huuuuge, with tiny, private rooms for the homeless. i already made the floor plans. my dad jokes around and says, "everyone's going to want to be homeless to get the chance to live in 'lisa's house'." hahaah.
