Even before the current recession the United States was a very polarized country. One can almost see the fault lines building for a civil war.

There are whites in this country who are talking about a revolution. Some look forward to a military coup. I really don't know what the mood of the military is. If President Obama is assassinated, thousands of whites in the South and elsewhere will openly celebrate. That, plus the assassination itself, will lead to black ghetto riots worse than those that followed the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King in 1968. If there are black riots, there will be white vigilante activity. If the military supports the president he will stay in power. I do not want to sound alarmist, but I am concerned.

If unemployment keeps going up, I am very concerned. From what I read of the Great Depression, a lot of rich people hated Franklin Roosevelt for being "a traitor to his class." A lot of people who were not rich voted against Roosevelt, but I do not remember reading about a populist opposition to the New Deal. In the South the Klu Klux Klan was a pillar of the Democrat Party. Klansmen hated blacks, but most voted for Roosevelt.

 

Hell DL, you should title this my favorite wet dream and put in the Sex Story Section.

 

I see the Obama bow as a mistake, not a big one though.
Politics in the US is keenly divided, I see 40% red and 40% blue, with 20% of floating voters.
Now I am guessing who ever is in the Whitehouse the other side will throw brickbats at him. So I guess it's the republican turn to pitch.

Maybe we will have a side out in 3 years time.

 

For fuck's sake. Do you not have anything else to gripe about other than how bad it is that your president bowed to some foreign leader? Are your homeless now all housed? Is your unemployment rate zeroed? Is your deficit at an all time low? What about health care did you manage to get that sorted so everyone gets the same standard of care without it depending on how much money they have coming in? You all need to stop bitching about the perceived wrongs your president's bringing on your nation and accept you've got another three years of his leadership before you have a chance of voting him out.

 

But you see, that's exactly the point. The people who oppose Obama set the right-wing noise machine in motion whenever they perceive that they have an opening to do so. And if they DON'T perceive that they have an opening, they try to create one out of nothing. It's all part of an orchestrated effort to bring Obama back to earth, so that they'll have a better chance of beating him in three years. It's about bringing his approval numbers down, and about pressing independents and undecided voters to shift their allegiance.

Basically, what we've evolved into is a country that never stops campaigning for president. Everything Obama does will be scrutinized by his opponents to see if there's a way of making him pay a political price for it.

 

My fear though is that we will also turn into a nation of blind fools reacting off nothing more than emotion charged propaganda.

I watched another clip recently from Fox where Cal Thomas was criticizing something President Obama did. But then they ran a clip on Fox news from a year ago where Cal Thomas was praising President Bush for doing the exact same thing.

Just one application of that should be enough for any thinking individual to recognize phony bullshit when they see it and never tune into Fox again. But instead they are perfectly willing to ignore that as long as Fox tells them what they want to hear

First I stated that the President should have shaken the hand of the Emperor and give a nod of his head. And the Japanese news media stated the following on the subject.

"Kyodo News is running his appropriate and reciprocated nod and shake with the Empress, certainly to show the president as dignified, and not in the form of a first year English teacher trying to impress with Karate Kid-level knowledge of Japanese customs.

So the nod and shake of the hand was the appropriate action to be taken with the Emperor and Empress. The next thing I stated was that the bow made him look weak and inferior. And according to the Japanese news media it stated
the following on the subject.

"The bow as he performed did not just display weakness in Red State terms, but evoked weakness in Japanese terms....The last thing the Japanese want or need is a weak looking American president and, again, in all ways, he unintentionally played that part.

So that is how they are saying the same things I have been saying.

And to show even further that the bow was not needed. This was the following from the article as well, but this is not from the Japanese news media, but from ABC News.

An old friend -- an academic with expertise about the Japanese Empire, and in general a supporter of President Obama -- sends me the following note, relating to photographs of President Obama bowing to Emperor Akihito of Japan.

"This picture shows two things," my friend writes.
"1) The 'right' is wrong about Obama's bow.
"2) The 'left' is wrong about Obama's bow.
"His bow is neither (1) unprecedented nor (2) a sign of cultural understanding.

So again, the bow was not needed, because it is not a sign of cultural understanding. The appropriate nod and hand shake was the right move on this instance.

I don't understand the whole have to be conservative/liberal debate, I would think you need to be conservative on some things and liberal on others. And who gives a shit about who bowed to who..
