  2. Hello,

You can now get verified on forum.

The way it's gonna work is that you can send me a PM with a verification picture. The picture has to contain you and forum name on piece of paper or on your body and your username or my username instead of the website name, if you prefer that.

I need to be able to recognize you in that picture. You need to have some pictures of your self in your gallery so I can compare that picture.

Please note that verification is completely optional and it won't give you any extra features or access. You will have a check mark (as I have now, if you want to look) and verification will only mean that you are who you say you are.

You may not use a fake pictures for verification. If you try to verify your account with a fake picture or someone else picture, or just spam me with fake pictures, you will get Banned!

The pictures that you will send me for verification won't be public

Good try, but I have already posted this earlier, and no one paid attention to it. Just look at my post number 64. When people want to be stubborn and ignore the truth, there is nothing you can do.

Japan's reaction to Obama bowing before the Emperor

You quoted an American evaluation. Here are Japanese evaluations:

    ---------

While the Japanese media has largely avoided commenting on the incident, numerous comments have been made on Japanese blogs and open forums. The general comments have been rather different in tone from that of American counterparts. Here are some select comments made on several sites:

    [All comments translated from Japanese]

    * “What a bow!”
    * “Such a deep bow from Obama, what a fine guy.”
    * “I’m surprised he bowed. He’s really trying hard to meet the Japanese way!”
    * “President Obama is a top-class person, isn’t he? Amazing!”
    * “The Emperor is giving a nice smile!”
    * “Is the Japanese Emperor really that special?”
    * “The Emperor or the Pope, the President or the Prime Minister, whoever is greater is not something that I think can be decided objectively.”
    * “I laughed because it was a much better bow than I had imagined.”
    * “Obama’s huge!”
    * “Obama has more of a true Japanese heart than most Japanese do.”

Here is the link once again, and you will see it came from the Kyodo News.

    http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalp...at-both-the-left-and-the-right-are-wrong.html

That was a quote from the Japanese news media, not an American evaluation.

And you see those were selected comments, right? I wonder why they chose only the positive ones.

Here are some select comments made on several sites:

And these came from multiple sites. So I am sure if you go through enough sites, you will get at least one or two people saying something positive.

Here is a negative comment from a blog

I am a professor at a Japanese university and have lived in this country for over 30 years. Jake's friend is mostly correct in his assessment, but his citing Nixon's "bow" as a precedent is most definitely incorrect. Nixon's "bow" is done quite properly and is not obsequious in the least. It is a proper Japanese greeting between equals. Nixon (or his staff) did his homework and did not make a fool of himself.
Obama's bow has caused quite a bit of snickering among my Japanese friends. It is a major breach of protocol to shake hands while bowing, and as my Japanese wife pointed out, even most Japanese would not have bowed that low.
My wife said she mostly feels sorry for him for making such a fool of himself. I think that shows the level of discomfort that this bow has occasioned.

Japanese say Obama bow 'appropriate' show of respect

TOKYO, Nov 17 (AFP) - President Barack Obama's deep bow to Japan's emperor has been castigated by US critics as kowtowing to a foreign leader, but experts in Japanese etiquette praised it as an appropriate show of respect...

The gesture went largely unnoticed in Japan but has sparked intense debate in the United States about whether Obama had disgraced his country by showing excessive deference.

Experts in Japanese etiquette think not.

"Bowing is an expression of respect and open-mindedness as a person greets someone," said Reiko Kasai, chief instructor at JAL Academy, an intercultural training school...

The Japanese imperial family, the world's oldest monarchy, lives on the apex of Japanese protocol, and meeting them requires the highest and most sincere demeanor, experts said.

A palace spokesman also played down the controversy, telling AFP that Obama's bow looked "only natural and appropriate."

Akihito is the 125th emperor in a myth-shrouded lineage starting with legendary Jimmu, a descendant of sun goddess Amaterasu, in the 7th century BC...

Before meeting the emperor, foreign envoys and visitors are usually told that bowing is important, said Isao Tokoro, professor of imperial studies at Kyoto Sangyo University.

"When visiting a foreign country, it is an admirable international manner to follow the country's own protocol," he said.

"It should be praised and never deserve criticism. In Japan, bowing never means the person underestimates himself."

While some conservative commentators on US talk shows charged that the gesture bespoke a United States that had become weak and overly-deferential under Obama, Japanese media took a more positive view.

"If Obama simply walked up to the emperor and shook hands as he stood tall, he would have looked very arrogant to us," said a Japanese presenter with Nippon Television.

Mami Matsuda, an expert in Japanese etiquette who has written many books on the subject, said Obama seemed to show his affinity to Japan with his bow.

This is how newsworthy Obama's bow was.........down here in australia we get all relevant and ridiculous news pieces from the US, ie... last night there was a story about a police officer booking a driver and a kitten was crawling all over him and he didn't flinch he just kept writing, the kitten ended up sitting on his head.
However we haven't seen anything about Obama bowing...see, totally not newsworthy.

I realise that being the President of the world's greatest country in history has to be something better than all us mere mortals, but remember he is human and humans do occasionally make faux pas.

If you are going to post, post the whole thing, where it states the following.

Mami Matsuda, an expert in Japanese etiquette who has written many books on the subject, said Obama seemed to show his affinity to Japan with his bow.

"Shaking hands and nodding would have been enough for the occasion," she said. "He might have intentionally followed the Japanese way."

As I have stated so many times throughout this post. And as many other world leaders have done in the past.

The Republican Hate Machine is trying to make a big issue out of this, and it's not. The Japanese thought Obama's behavior was appropriate, and even appealing.

The democratic machine is trying to show that the media is wrong for saying he was wrong. And I have shown multiple times how the media has grounds for being upset about the low bow.

It is not "the media" that is criticizing the President. It is a few right wing wind bags.

Would the media not be comprised of news, late night shows, newspapers, magazines, radio stations, etc?

as a Brit if our PM had not bowed i would have been upset

he visited japan and should be sensitive to their customs this is normal international politeness

but if he had bowed like the President i would have been upset because i think the bow was to deep, I would not bow to QE2 like that and i am a sort of royalist

but it has been blown all out of proportion buy the American people

i think the guy has bigger problems to deal with than this

For me, this is the most sensible post in this thread.

Obama's a tall guy, and to get his head down to the level that bowing etiquette demands means he had to almost bend double.
Had the Emperor done any more than nodding his head, it would have been in Obama's crutch....:excited:

What a load of old fuss.
