Yesterdays was the first time I ever saw the word cosplay...I looked it up, it wouldn't be anything I'd like...
Cosplay (コスプレ, kosupure?), short for "costume play",[1] is a fan labor type of performance art in which participants don costumes and accessories to represent a specific character or idea. Characters are often drawn from popular fiction in Japan. Favorite sources include manga, anime, tokusatsu, comic books, graphic novels, video games, hentai and fantasy movies. Role play includes portrayals of J-pop and J-rock stars, Taiwanese puppet characters, science fiction characters, characters from musical stories, classic novels, and entertainment software. Any entity from the real or virtual world that lend itself to dramatic interpretation may be taken up as a subject. Inanimate objects are given an anthropomorphic forms and it is not unusual to see genders switched, with women playing male roles and vice versa.
Cosplayers often interact to create a subculture centered around role play. A broader use of the term cosplay applies it to any costumed role play in venues apart from the stage, regardless of the cultural context.

 

I sometimes put on, T-shirt,jeans,work boots and a Jacket.

Then to complete the "Workman" theme I go to a Building site and arrange bricks into the customary order, even using mortar to fix them in place for added realism.

I know a few older black men that dress up like "pimps" with expensive clothes when they go to a club. It does seem to attract the ladies. The ladies usually make comments like "you are such a well dressed man".

Kind of like a rooster strutting his stuff in front of a chicken, I guess...

 

And again, michael saint, that's twice you made me laff today, we must have same sense of humour

 

Does anyone else know who this is? I know who this is. Do you watch Castle, Foe? Did you see this season's Halloween episode? I was as giddy as a little school girl.

I have never cosplayed but I have attended a few Anime Expo's and ComiCons...and there are quite a few attractive females that dress up. Of course none of them come up to you, its always the dudes asking you how you made your costume. :wall:

 

It's a new tv show here in the States. He plays a novelist who starts tagging along with a sexy detective to get inspiration for his next set of books. It's a fun show.

I once planned on Cosplaying Miyavi and L at 2 different conventions, never got around to it.

 

Are there special shops that cater specifically to cosplayers and sell the materials they need, or do you just go to any place that sells huge amounts of textiles?

Hm... I wonder if you can buy pre-made costumes.... I just don't have the time (or the skill) to measure, cut, sew, etc... What with the clinical depression and all.
