I was smoking roll your own cigarettes for that very reason.
Then in April they made roll your owns cost almost the same as regular cigarettes.
The price for a can of tabacco rose from $20 to over $40. More than doubled! Pissed me off so badly I just quit.

 

Don't get the cans, get the bags, there still about twenty bucks, thats what I smoke.

Nah not that its going to give me cancer.... I just don't like the smell. It certainly doesn't make me go "mmm, let me have some of that". Not everyone wants to reek of it. Its a persons choice whether they want to or not.

 

I think they should force smokers back into the pub! As a non-smoker, I hate walking past a public house and coming away with my clothes and hair smelling of smoke! :excited:

 

The smell would be a lot better if people stopped buying ready-made cigarettes. Those things are fucking disgusting.

I can spend 20 minutes in the home of someone who smokes ready-rolled and reek. I can spend 2 hours in the home of someone who smokes roll-ups, and the smell is virtually gone by the time I've walked home. There is a huge amount in difference.

It's the hypocrisy that bothers me. There is no cancer risk from second hand smoke, unless you work in a bar (formerly) or perhaps live with a heavy smoker. Smokers get ostracised for their lifestyle choice, but the people who have triple bypass surgery because they're eating themselves to death - they get away with it?

President Sarkozi recently came under fire for demanding that the members of his cabinet 'set a good example' by being thin, and was bollocked for it. Why? Because fat people are acceptable, but it's 'politically correct' to hate smokers.

 

My Dad used to smoke rollies and i used to reek after I'd been to his. I do however agree with you about those who have heart bypass surgery as a result from Obesity.

Is it not true that people who smoke chose to smoke....so it can cause death in some people true but allot of things can kill us speeding kills and I speed, in the end its up to each individual to make there own choice.

Actually it is just as expensive for the bags where I live. Even the complete crap tobacco is.

And I found out about the price hike when I went to buy a pouch that was typically $2.50 and suddenly it was $6.50 the same as a pack of cigarettes.

 

Considering the number of dead people to whom it did give cancer, you're going to look a goddamned idiot for trying to argue it can't.

 

I smoked for a little while. I got a little bit of a high from it and it calmed me down. Although I still smoke very occasionally, I know the benefits are outweighed by the problems.

A landmark study was done, showing that the level of increased risk of lung cancer from passive smoking was negligible. No medical journal would touch it - though the research couldn't be faulted. Neither could the results. One journal took it. The Lancet was brave enough. Finally, the government pressure meant the chief editor cracked. He was forced to issue an apology and discredit the research.

The research was true.

The idea that passive smoking kills thousands every year is entirely indefensible.
