My youngest daughter has a fear of tests. She is a senior A/B student, but gets shit scared at the thought of important tests to the point of failure, so much so that we homeschool her, even at a higher level.
Recently, she took a driver's exam, and would have failed it had it not been for the high grades she made throughout the class. Does anyone else have this fear, and if so, what did you do to overcome it? My wife and I have never had a problem with tests, so we could use a bit of help...

 

I've had the fear of your daughter failing my whole life.

I suggest you whore her out for cash. That way you can at least live comfortably in your misery.

What was kinda funny? Whoring her out for money or being afraid of tests? Tell her everyday is a test and if that doesn't work bring her to the pound and exchange her for a dog. A lot less hassle and they don't talk back

Anywho, to get back to the topic, I have the same problem and i'm 22. I know the material and retain information quickly...but as soon as that test is put infront of me my heart pounds and my mind goes blank. It's like I had never heard of any of the info and the test is in another language. I actually had to have my own testing room in high school. Just as my nerves would start to calm down, I would see all the other kids just writing away and I would get all freaked out again and start only paying attention to them and anything else in the room that made noise. I had ADD and testing anxiety.

I took Ritalin and that helped with the distractions, and I had a therapist teach me how to remain calm during tests. It did help so much that my grades started improving. I still have testing anxiety, but it's nowhere near the point where it used to be. I can now successfully pass a test. Still not up to A's, but i'm just glad i'm in the B's now, lol.

 

I never worried about tests. I was always so high in HS that I didn't care. My grades sucked and I never had a dime to my name, but I slept really good during class.

I don't really have any help to give you, other than that you have to both support her, in success or failure. Let her know that there's no single test that will determine the outcome of her life, no single test that's important in the scheme of things. Reassure her that she knows the material, and that if she approaches things more calmly, you have confidence that she'll do well.

If none of that works, you might have her school recommend a therapist that specializes in phobias like this.
