A man picked up a woman at a local bar on New Years Eve, they left together and she wasnt heard from again, a few weeks later
she was found stuffed in a trunk in a field. The man that killed
her was later caught and admitted to the crime. Here in Texas we
have the death penalty, so how long should he sit on death row costing
tax payers money, before we execute him if he gets the death penalty
which he probably will ?

 

He is still alive? Wow, that must be a record in Texas.

 

Actually yes, and Im curious how long people think this kind of person should stay that way considering what he did, as opposed to sitting on death row for 10 yrs like most do.

ZERO Tolerance for rape,murder,child molesters. Should be removed from the gene pool immediately. I heard that it costs upwards of $50,000 dollars a year to keep someone on death row. A .25 cent bullet could save $49,999.75

 

So the liberal say's life imprisonment, and the conservative would say death? Which makes more sense financially?...

My family has many members that work for the state department of corrections. They come home and tell stories. Stories of human sludge that get TV, radio, telephone access, free healthcare... It's disgusting that these worthless beings drain money from a society that could be spending it on schools or hospitals, or frikkin' public transit.

I say kill him. Kill a very large portion of them.

In California, the department is called the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. As if you can improve these devils. Sure, in some prisons you're going to find some people worth saving, but for the most part these people don't want to be rehabilitated.

Kill him.

I wonder how high crime would be if we killed most of our prisoners...

I read this article about some Eastern European country, I think it might have been Czechoslovakia, that has the lowest prison population in the world. Most crime is punished with community service. Improving roads, construction, garbage pickup, basic upkeep of society, is mostly handled by criminals. An interesting form of giving out justice that might be worth investigating.
And a criminals only rights are basic clothing, food, shelter, and basic, BASIC healthcare.

Not TV, not radio, not telephone, not even visitation rights. They're criminals for a reason. These guys live better lives in the prison than if they were on the outside.

 

I agree with everything posted here so far, I created a thread about a year or two ago talking about prision reform and what Id do, it wasnt a
perfect plan but just some ideas, I have zero tolerence for violent criminals and feel their trials should be quick and punishment swift.

 

I'm considered to be a liberal, and I'm not sure about my own point of view...

In the first place, I am in favor of the death penalty, but someone sentenced to death shouldn't be executed immediately, in case 'we' were wrong and the guy/woman was innocent. That is, unless we find a cure against being dead.

In the second place, I am opposed to the death penalty, because death isn't a punishment. It's a few moments of anxiety, until they turn out your lights, and that's it, you're gone and unaware of any punishment at all.

So, the death penalty is in reality just a form of relief for the victim and his/her family.

So, while I feel that a lot of people deserve the death penalty, I feel that life imprisonement is a far harder punishment than death, because a lifer will 'feel' his punishment until he/she croaks. Second thoughts about the latter are, that an inmate adapts to the life inside and can feel as free inside as outside, and have even a better life as an imate as opposed to living on the outside.

As a result, I would opt for something that is almost unfeasable, and that is to let the victim or the victim's family choose what the sentence will be: either life imprisonment, or death.

Costwise, death penalty is the cheapest, though at the rate they are going in Texas, they can count themselves lucky they switched to poison, else the electricity bill could become quite staggering...

But in the end, when all is said and done, who are we to judge anyway?

Would you feel so strongly if the victim had been male? The death penalty isn't a deterrent, it isn't a punishment it's just legalised murder.

In my view it's about revenge, but if a member of my family was murdered in this fashion I would be demanding revenge, but that's just my personal view.

 

Yes I would feel the same way, a innocent life taken with undeniable proof and or a confession justifies the death penalty to be carried out as soon as possible not only to save tax dollars but send a clear message that crimes like this wont be tolerated and the criminal put on death row for 10 years or worse be given life costing us even more.

 

I have read many cases where "undeniable proof" was later found to be tainted, faked and in more than one case, just made up. Confessions can also be obtained from people if they are questioned "the right way".

 

This man was caught with her credit cards in hand at a 24hr xxx bookstore, eyewitness's said they saw him leave the bar with her,
and he confessed. I really think in this case, the margin for error
is zero. So why not end his life, like he ended hers?
