Why 18 then?

Why not 21? I have known women, and men, who were damaged at that age. The argument has always been that putting an age on peoples maturity is wrong. That each case should be taken on its merits?
Surely a judge and jury should be able to decide who is exploiting who?

I do not think it needs to be lowered at all. Even when I was 18 and dating a 14 year old, I didn't think it needed to be lowered. The law is there for a reason and yeah I had to wait for 4 years to do anything other than kiss him, I am glad for it. 12 and 13 are much too young, at that age, kids should be only worried about getting good grades and growing up at their own pace. If we lower the age of consent, then you will have less kids finishing school. The number of teen moms and drop-outs is already dismal and that is with the age being set at 18.

 

What about range rather than a line... followed by a line... While I might have some pretty deranged stuff in some of my stories. I think innocence is a wonderful thing and children should be kept innocent at long as possible. Innocent as opposed to naive. Put a within two or three years up to the age of 18.

 

The age of consent should definitely be raised for Catholics. I'm not sure what age they become old enough to think for themselves, but it's probably around 40, after their first divorce.

I don't think it's the best idea to start citing people complaining about "fantasy" stories on here, with a guy that is supporting a very REAL change to the laws.

That seems to give these stories a basis in reality, and not just in this fantasy world.

Coincidentally, Matthew24 obviously has absolutely no idea what he is talking about, and his arguments would not convince anyone (who has half a brain) that the age of consent should be lowered to that age range.

I think the new Canadian laws have it nailed down pretty good

Age of consent is 16, but 15 and 14 year olds can legally have sex with someone no more than 5 years older than themselves and 12-13 year olds can have sex with someone no more than 2 or 3 years older than themselves.

18 is on the high side imho, particularly with no close-in-age exceptions. That sounds like it's asking for over-zealous parents to abuse it.

 

I am all for the age buffer like you just described, it protects teens from those who would prey on them while people who were in my circumstance (hubby was 14 and I was 18 went we met... almost had sex when he was 16) a way to be with their boyfriend or girlfriend without a stigma attached to it.

I agree. It's the people that are too rigid in their thinking of the underage sex debate that get me angry.

 

I don't think Australia has it to bad with the legal age being 16. But I defiantly think that it shouldn't be any lower than 16 and I think that maybe a 1/2/3 year buffer could work.

Theres nothing wrong with fantasy and "ageplay " fantasy isnt actually about age. Its about a lot of other things. Like most fantasy ( i did this for a living...) most peoples fantasies are about someone wanting them , achingly, in a nonjudgemental, purely sexual way. Fantasy is fine. And no two people who are Actually in love once the two people are both of an age capable of real decision making should be criminalise.
