Apologies for the double post, but...

...is it a given that stories should be judged partially on their arousal potential? Only I find this difficult to deal with; what I find arousing (both in terms of content and coherent, well written English) may not be what turns anyone else on. What if I want to write a story that contains virtually no sex, if at all?

Although I'm a big fan of categorized voting systems like that, I don't think it's technically possible on this site. This is only an unofficial contest and therefore no changes to the site will be made to accomodate it; we have to work with what we have. And what we have is a Sex Stories section where voting and commenting are disabled, a forum, and a polling mechanism.

Based upon that, I think we're limited to a simple "vote for your favorite story" poll, just like ejls said. One option per story. It's up to each reader to decide the criteria that they'll base their vote on.

If I may make one more suggestion, we should decide ahead of time whether it's appropriate for a contestant to vote for his or her own story. I say yes, because otherwise it's inevitable that someone will cheat and vote for their story anyways. If we allow it, at least it's fair because everyone will do it.

 

Or everyone will be given the option to vote for their own story.

Thank you, DC. We do not have official judges to place merit on the literary quality of each submission. The voting, done by poll, is based on the readers likes or dislikes. It is left up to the discretion of the reader, and the reader's decision alone. If the voting were enabled, perhaps we could have used the percentage system in place here, but that is not an option.

I agree with being able to vote for your own story, if you wish. After all, we are readers, too.

Lady E, my friend this challenge is giving me a fit! Finding a storyline is not as easy as I expected. I'm running into a writer's block wall. In my mind, the first paragraph tells me that the genre to fit this would be mystery, supernatural, or romance. Also, the story is told from a woman's point of view. I'm not certain if I can come up with a storyline and genre which I can be comfortable writing. I have about three paragraphs written which I'm not really happy with.

I suppose you can keep my name on your list, but I'm not sure how 'committed' I can be. I have several other story ideas begging for my attention. I'm not throwing in the towel yet, but if something doesn't change soon may have no other choice. Oh well, shame on me. Its my lose!

...I purposely haven't started, and won't until about a week before the deadline. Nor will I bother to read anyone else's story if they're up before the deadline.

Fortunately you have two months to get over your writer's block. I'd give you some ideas, but that would be breaking the rules.

I'm a happy girl. I've just hit 800,000 words, and Jessica (my alterego) is currently resplendent in a nacre-white semi-opaque creation of gossamer and hydrogen having zero mass, zero volume, and infinite surface area. (Math buffs, think Sierpinski Sponge, inverted.) In other words, my massive tome is finally at the good part. Leave me alone. Busy. Writing here. Sheesh.

LOL! Now, for full disclosure (to those not in the know), that story review was overwhelmingly positive. I loved that story!

Nah, you didn't go overboard; I thought your suggestions were great. It's really a shame that they're not practical in this environment. If anyone wants to explain their choice for favorite story in the thread by using the criteria you suggested, I'd love to read about it.

As much as I'd love an extra $100.00, my anonymity is worth more to me than that. Since I'm a little paranoid, I wouldn't want to give out my address, P.O. box, bank account number, or paypal account number. I don't even want you to slip the cash underneath the trash can just inside the door of the third bathroom on the north side of Grand Central Station.

So that there's no confusion or hard feelings if I happen to win, I'm announcing ahead of time that if that happens, I'll forfeit the cash prize and let it go to second place. But I'm asking all readers to PLEASE not let that affect their vote in any way, whether in my favor or against it. I want the best story to win, whether that's mine or someone else's.
