Now all I have to do is... write 49 1/2 more stories by May 1. Okay, maybe I should come up with a fiendish plan that takes less work. Better yet, I think I'll skip the fiendish plan and stick with 1 story.

On a completely unrelated note, I wonder if there's some way to anonymize the entries so that we're voting for the stories and not for the authors. I for one would rather have my story judged on its merit than on how many people like me.

Of course, some authors have such distinct styles that they couldn't be anonymous if they tried. For instance, I could spot a JackassTales story from a mile away, blindfolded, with both hands tied behind my back. (This is not an insult though, considering how much I love his stories)

But I doubt we could come up with a scheme to keep the stories anonymous, at least one that doesn't involve overflowing the inbox of ejls with our entries.

It seems to me that the easiest way to make it anonymous would be open a new account under a name like WritingComp and then send out the password. When you log in to it you give your story a number, and it also means you can find all of them in one place.

 

DC, this is pretty haha funny and I take it in the spirit of complimentary fun it seems to have been written in. When I read the first part of your 'anonymize' suggestion, a quick thought popped into my head which said, "I betcha there are some who would recognize me!" Your very next sentence confirmed this.

In a way, I take this as sort of a compliment. My two favorite (they're dead now) authors are Zane Grey and Louis L'amour (cowboy & indian westerns). Each in turn nearly always wrote the same story over and over again, but if you liked what you got you knew what you'd get next time. They both turned out to be very popular, partner. And buckaroo, don't for a second think I'm comparing my writing skills to theirs!!!

I finally found an idea for this contest and I'm about a 3rd of the way in. Don't know for sure where I'm going when I finish this scene. There are full grown adults here along with a bit of mystery and romance. Although it's not my usual stuff, I'd bet you a dollar YOU could pick it out without an author's name!

I have never read Miss Emily's work, and I now look forward to doing so. Might be time for another story review from yours truly, the inimitable a.p. Miss Emily strikes me as a sassy lady with spunk, whereas her nemesis (Sir Orion) seems, at first blush, to be reminiscent of one of those shiny little multisegmented things, with the big pincers on their probisci, whatever they are. Just a first impression. I'm sure he is very nice, too. Maybe his Daddy never spanked his botty for picking on girls. Umm.

Proposal to ejls: if Daddycums and DonB come in at a dead heat, I suggest a lightning round:

Write a story of 3,000 words or less based on what Mr. Orion did to Miss Emily (and vice-versa, if applicable) to make her hate him so (and vice-versa, if applicable), and how they end up married with little babies (if applicable).

I hate to ask this if you've been asked a million times, or if there is an answer in the depths of the forums somewhere, but will we see a "A Weekend with Little Sister, Part 4"? I enjoy that series a lot and I'd love to know if I can expect another chapter. ^^

Also, I wrote an outline to the story I want to write for this challenge. I'm really excited about it and I hope everyone enjoys it. Although I don't care if I win or not, I feel like I have a good chance. But so does everyone else. You're all a bunch of very talented writers.

 

The bad news is no more chapters. The good news is that Rick and Amy are going to continue their relationship for a long time to come, and I plan to write a lot more about them. I'm just not sure yet how I'm going to organize the sequels.

No matter who wins, I expect a lot of good stories to come out of this bunch. I'm honestly more interested in reading the entries than in the official result of the contest.

Due to the amount of requests for a closer deadline, I am starting a second thread to ask your opinion. I originally set the May 1st deadline so that everyone would have enough time to write, especially new writers.

If no one objects, we'll let the majority rule. It also means I have to get off my butt and get something written. We'll see what the community says.
