This is not the first time this has happened. There used to be a fan who commented on most people's work. The trolls started commenting, using his name. We all knew it wasn't him. But God forbid, the admins let us require signed-in comments.

 

Looks like I might have to invoke the time-honored "Hawaii Defense" when I'm finally ready to submit my contest story.

Yeah, see, I'm vacationing in Hawaii and that give me just over 13 hours [I think] to get the thing finished and submitted.

But first, off to a luau to eat a pig. [And hope that if caught by her husband, he is clever enough to utter the classic line, "That's no pig, that's my wife!"]

 

Come on Sugar Nipples, quit stalling. Eat the pig and get on with it. We are looking forward to reading your entry.

Oh palease....is this seriously to be submitted for a CONTEST, get a life and get real, a writer you are NOT

On my contest story, the same date it was posted. I won't assume it was who it is attributed to because I am not going to be that person, but something has to be done with the options allowed on our stories.

We are allowed to disallow non member votes, but comments are allowed to be anonymous. One would go with the other according to common sense. And moderation of our comments would be nice also while the powers that be are at it.

Another three months to go, better get the popcorn:???:

 

I have been pleading with them for weeks to allow us to limit comments to logged in users only. It's bad enough to get trolled, but it's worse when they use your name to dirty your reputation.

I made a decision yesterday - until this change comes about, I will no longer allow comments on my stories. I will no longer make public comments on anyone elses. I will make all comments through pm's, unless you choose to start a comment thread.

Have the trolls won? Maybe the battle, but not the war.

Although I did post my original inquiry in question form, I don't want you to think that I really thought you made the comment! My apologies, if you did.

My question and your response has stirred up quite a reaction here. The comment section on the story site says something about how all comments will be read by a moderator before posting so it might take about 10 minutes before they show up after your story. I don't know about you, or others, but often my comments on stories are now showing up immediately! Either there are some speed-reading moderators at work there or they are skipping this step!!!

I've seen it too. I've commented (positively, I might mention) after logging in, and as quickly as my screen could move, the comment was there for all to see.

The mods and admins aren't reading the comments. Why? Because they don't give a damn, that's why!

 

Here is the actually line after the comment section on the story site:

"I would remind you that all comments are verified by a moderator every day. So please, for readers and authors, post only constructive comments. Moreover, they won't be online immediately. You have to wait about 30 minutes to see them appear."

I just submitted a comment on Donb's story. It appeared immediately.

I think that that is the real Wantsomefun, it's the sort of constructive, nice comment that he'd make.

I have had a thought about wantsomefun's statement about some nasty comments under my name. Perhaps that is the reason that most of the comments that I post to stories, even though I am always logged in, within a day or two my name becomes 'reader'. Another anamoly? Who knows.

Yes, Don, the positive comment was mine. I THOUGHT I always wrote my penname in all lower-case characters, but, obviously, I was wrong. [Large serving of egg on my face!]

You are not the only one to notice this 'anomaly', Don. Others have commented on it elsewhere since the site has come back to life. I suppose if a commenter wants to make sure a reader knows who commented, then he or she should pickup your old practice of signing each comment with his or her user name.

 

The last of the stories should be validated in the next couple of days. Then the hell begins. I wish you all the best of luck.

Question for regular posters to the stories site

Maybe it's just me [pretty likely ], but I thought I read in a thread here in the stories section of the forum that one could effect italics or boldface text on the plain text stories site by using text text text or text text text. Yet, when I tried that over the weekend, the result was plain text that showed the and in the submitted story that is awaiting validation.

Will validation magically turn those codes into the desired result or will the story just be plain text with those stupid-looking and ineffective codes showing up?

 

It looks like you did it right; you'll notice that your examples above were automatically converted in your post. The Stories section uses the same syntax. Just to be clear, it's the same tags as in HTML but with square brackets instead of angle brackets. The reason you see the tags in the unvalidated story is because when you look at your story from your "Your Stories" page, you will always see the brackets, but when you browse to the story from any other method, they'll be correctly formatted.

If anyone wants to see an example of the tags, start a new post in this thread, bold or italicize some text, then click on the Switch Editor Mode button in the far upper-right corner of the editor window.

By the way, you get bonus points for correctly using "effect" as a verb.

 

Thanks for the reassuring answer--and that last, too. I ain't no grammarian, but I do try to effect the correct affect on the rare occasions when the blondebrain is actually functioning.

 

Daddycums; I know you are very busy, but I wish you had time to write a 'simple' italics and bold primer for lame-brained computer-illiterate writers like me. (In the sentence above, I used the B and I in the box above.) I write using quite a few words requiring italics, but I always use 'single' quote marks because I don't have the sense to format my Microsoft Word text into italics when I'm typing. I know you post on StoriesOnline. Would their rules for italics and bold text work on Xnxx? If not, please enlighten me, and others, as to what will.
