  2. Hello,

You can now get verified on forum.

The way it's gonna work is that you can send me a PM with a verification picture. The picture has to contain you and forum name on piece of paper or on your body and your username or my username instead of the website name, if you prefer that.

I need to be able to recognize you in that picture. You need to have some pictures of your self in your gallery so I can compare that picture.

Please note that verification is completely optional and it won't give you any extra features or access. You will have a check mark (as I have now, if you want to look) and verification will only mean that you are who you say you are.

You may not use a fake pictures for verification. If you try to verify your account with a fake picture or someone else picture, or just spam me with fake pictures, you will get Banned!

The pictures that you will send me for verification won't be public

    Best regards,

    StanleyOG.

All this talk about earth shifts, magnetic and polar etc. So "time", a measurement devised by humans, has been shortened. I grant you that it is interesting to read about, but I only worry about things I can control or affect in some way. There is nothing you and I can do to shift the earth back... so I am not going to lose any sleep over it.

This is one of those times when I had two vague concepts in my head and one factor changed I connected both of them with the addition of a "that would be bad" comment.

And so now I find myself in a situation where it would make just as much sense for me to run outside and plug my computer into the ground, and be surprised if it does not work.

Unwittingly, this turns out to be the theoretical camp I joined.

Hell TR if you think getting around the garbage information is tough you should see the pile of garbage I have to try to get around in my own head.

I'm embarrassed to say had I actually done five minutes of research I'd have figured out myself that I was connecting unrelated factors to a "that would be bad" idiotic comment.

According to this site earth's polarity has reversed four times in the past 15 million years, and there are some scientists who believe a reversal is in progress right now, but the change appears to take about 7,000 years.

Even then there appears to be no doom involved. Apparently the only thing it would effect are things that read magnetic north for an initial reading. If the polarity did shift it doesn't do anything to electricity and electronics.

    http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/earth_poles_040407.html

The real impact here for humanity is that between the minuscule change in the axis, and the weakening magnetic field apparently my Tin Foil Hat needs to be re calibrated.

Since no one is around who witnessed the last couple of magnetic polarity changes, it is understandable to question the effects.

We will always have the: "But what if they know, but aren't telling us the truth, to avoid panic" crowd.

What I can determine is that apart from the radio transmission problem, there may be a temporary reduction in radiation protection. Magnetic compass deviations at sea are a common phenomenon, they were perhaps a leading cause of ship wrecks in the days before electronics and modern navigational aides. Likewise, the early aviators experience similar difficulties with magnetic compasses.

    Another story about it all.

    In brief;

The change is the "figure axis", the "figure axis" is the axis around which earth rotates. It had nothing to do with the magnetic field. A few more points:

The magnitude 9.1 earthquake in 2004 that generated a killer tsunami in the Indian Ocean shortened the length of days by 6.8 microseconds.
On the other hand, the length of a day also can increase. For example, if the Three Gorges reservoir in China were filled, it would hold 10 trillion gallons (40 cubic kilometers) of water. The shift of mass would lengthen days by 0.06 microsecond, scientists said.

I don't think we should panic yet.

This was compounded in my head because Measurement While Drilling tools determine where the well bore actually is by azimuth (compass reading) and inclination (degree of angle). All the tools have to be oriented to "true north" but they only actually read the earth's magnet fields, so to calibrate them you have to have a magnetic declination (the difference between true north and magnetic north) for where you are on the earth's surface.

But you can't really determine that from the field, because the calculations have to be made annually by British Geological Survey Model (BGSM) taken as a function of time and location. Engineers (who never actually even see the drilling rig) have those calculations, and you call in to get your declination.

In my mind if the polarity suddenly reversed it would create a directional drilling total disaster. And it would, but now I suspect they can keep up with it if it happens over 7,000 years, but with oilfield educated idiots you never know.

There'd be a period (possibly only minutes long, possibly decades, I don't know) where the system you describe would be useless because there would be no magnetic field; however, if we're talking centuries, let alone millennia, into the future I dare say that some improved technology will be used instead of relying on the magnetic field at all.

You're right that a sudden instantaneous switch would cause all manner of unholy chaos, but there is no reason to believe that this ever happens.

The historical evidence that the earth's poles have reversed, comes from elements with in the earth.s crust that shows polar changes.. The earth did not have to reverse poles to cause this bit of evidence.. We have had such powerful magnetic surges from the sun spots to have done this and the evidence was mis-interpertated. Polar fields and the nail with an inlulated copper wire energized with a battery should get the mind straight...

ha ha , love it , my original post was very toungue in cheek .
for some above , you didn't loose a second , you only lost 1.26 milionths of a second , or 1 and 26hundreths of a millionth of a second.
    did you notice ?
As for a change in polarity , don't think I'l worry much. If it takes 7,000 years it won't be a problem. How long since they built the pyramids , since jesus lived [if he did] and we've had comunications for mm 100 odd years , much the same for mechanised transport , flying , printing a bit longer, computing a bit shorter.
We might have a mini ice age in the next 70 years , or get a bit warmer and have some flooding in the next hundred.
Nah , dont think I'l worry about in 700 years time , let alone 7,000.
to get a perspective on time , my grt grt grn daddy faught with Nelson at the battle of the Nile , only had wodden ships with canvas sails , canon n gunpowder t fight with n a horse t ride when he got home. His biggest worry was haveing accurate time in terms of minutes n seconds to navigate. What will my gransons son see ?

It is totally amazing how bits and pieces of information,, seem to filter down into a whole new subject...".Chicken Little on the Sky is Falling," to "The earth is going to stop and reverse " " Why worry the poles reverse every so often"

THEN I throw in a thread about Peru, and really meant to say Chilli...

Basic of the thread was Why are we not welcome there for aid.. Answer:
CIA and KGB practically destroyed the country 1973 they bought "Pinochet" to power and that was the most corupt passage of time that there could be. The country recovered but they do not welcome the USA and Briton into the country under any means...

The results of Chili earthquake.. This amazes me! they had measurement s that take years to make, but made statements that had un founded measurements with minutes of the first news.. Anything for a story... to cover up our CIA "Pinochet" dirty tricks..

So now you take this thread to entirely new topic?

Hmmm, I will admit that the "Peru" thread threw me enough not to participate.

But WTF, did you know that in the last 30 years 1.8 million people were killed by earthquakes in the world? That is 60,000 per year.

In other threads, some were complaining that the Haiti quake was nothing compared to Californias frequent quakes. How many people died as a result of earthquakes in the US during that same period? 700, not even 25 per year. In the UK there have 0, the last significant quake being over 300 years ago.

I wonder why we are accused of not comprehending what happens in the world?
