The Promise Academy II is an interesting school. However, because it is a charter school students and their parents are more motivated than students and parents in general. Before I get too hopeful about this school I would like to know average IQ scores of students before they entered the school.

It remains the case that Washington, DC has the most expensive public school system in the United States, and gets the lowest test scores.

Clark took partial control over the troubled Kansas City, Missouri, School District (KCMSD) on the grounds that it was an unconstitutionally segregated district with dilapidated facilities and students who performed poorly. In an effort to bring the district into compliance with his liberal interpretation of federal law, the judge ordered the state and district to spend nearly $2 billion over the next 12 years to build new schools, integrate classrooms, and bring student test scores up to national norms.

It didn't work. When the judge, in March 1997, finally agreed to let the state stop making desegregation payments to the district after 1999, there was little to show for all the money spent. Although the students enjoyed perhaps the best school facilities in the country...black students' achievement hadn't improved at all, and the black-white achievement gap was unchanged.(1)

During the War in the Gulf and the War in Bosnia - which the United States won without any casualties at all - the U.S. military demonstrated that no army can stand up to it in a conventional war.

During the War in Vietnam, and the occupations of Afghanistan and Iraq the U.S. military demonstrated that it is not skilled at occupying hostile populations willing to fight back.

Aside from a slight moral queasiness a decent person might feel about the idea of a war of annihilation against the Arab world, Afghanistan, and Iran, it would probably be more costly to the United State in terms of lives and money than the Second World War.

One of the problems we have in this war is the "Rules of engagement" I know they have changed them some but we should be able to go full bore. I understand about innocent being killed but that happens in a war, this is not an army we are fighting.

 

I believe the United States overestimated the danger of Communism during the Cold War, and currently overestimates the danger of Islamic terrorism. A single informer could have prevented 9/11. I see no value in occupying an Islamic country. Islamic terrorism is a problem, but one best dealt with through law enforcement, espionage, and occasional attacks by special operations units and precision guided munitions.
