I am confused by that statement, would you please elaborate, because I am somewhat lost by your use of the phrase "Chicago Way". I have never heard that phrase before, so I must be losing the essence of your statement.

 

I think he's trying to imply, as many conservatives are wont to do, that (1) Chicago politics is much the same today as it was in the days of Al Capone, and (2) Barack Obama and Rahm Emmanuel are practitioners of the same art.

It is, needless to say, nonsense.

 

But I would rather give my money to ponies than to fund certain things I REALLY do not approve of. Namely this bill, and other governmental things (like welfare to non-disabled/handicapped people). And secondly, it is not like the people who make more money (not the millionaires on up, just people who make six figures), get any more representation in government, nor do they get any benefits from the government. I will make six figures after a few years out of college, BUT THAT IS IT, there is no way I'm going to be extremely rich. I'm just going to end up in the upper middle class. I just want to ask America if they want the MIDDLE CLASS or not... because clearly everything we have done in recent history either caters to the very rich, or very poor. No five or six figure earning man lives happily these days. You have to either be poorer to get the benefits, or richer to pay without loosing out on alot of joy and happiness.

And dont get me this "taxed less than every other industrialized nation" bullshit, America is the cleaner and freer place (for the middle class) and has always been that way. You dont go backwards through history; and if you were to look closely at those industrialized nations you would find huge problems too.

And if the majority of Americans really feel that people like me don't deserve what we make because it is more than what they earn (not because what we do takes more education, talent, and skill), then this country truly reflects something else at its core.

It is not paying for charity that counts, it is whether one paid for it WILLINGLY that counts. This is ultimately not a matter of national defense, this does NOT help with immediate needs like food and water, it is a form of charity that has been made into law.

Look. Here's the way it works. People elect representatives to Congress, and they elect the president. It may be that successful candidates advocate for programs to help people that need it, through the collective action of the government. There's nothing wrong with the people of this country deciding to do that. That's why we have Social Security, that's why we have Medicare, that's why we have a whole host of programs. You may disagree, and that's you're right...but don't go implying that it's some kind of coercion. It's majority rule, nothing more, nothing less.

I don't like being forced to pay for wars, particularly wars founded upon lies. But while I'm willing to protest loudly, my only real recourse is to vote for candidates who will oppose such things. That's your recourse as well.

I'm just saying I'm upset because I will NOT benifit from this bill but I will have to pay for it, at the cost of whatever that money could of bought. Doesnt mean I'm not paying the damn taxes, but the majority these days do not care for the middle class (by far the best indicator of a country's level of freedom) at all. Majority rule does not always imply liberty or even the right and sensible decision for a country.

But it is law now... with even worse laws coming in the next few months... so meh.
