What have Europeans done for the world, not much really, Britain just kick started the industrial revolution, exported it, built railways across Africa and the Indian Sub-Continent.

He (along with Charles Kettering) discovered dichlorodifluoromethane, a chlorofluorocarbon which he dubbed Freon. CFCs replaced the various toxic or explosive substances previously used as the working fluid in heat pumps and refrigerators. CFCs were also used as propellants in aerosol spray cans, metered dose inhalers (asthma inhalers), and more. He was awarded the Perkin Medal in 1937 for this work.

I have to throw down on this one.We all have the right to life, liberty and the persuit of happyness...true.But we do not have the right to persue these things to the detriment of others.Nor do we have the right to persue these things to the detriment of the environment or the general welfare of society as a whole.

Rights come with resonsablities.One of those responsabilities is to ensure the fair and ethical treatment of other people.Slavery flew in the face of this concept and was ended because it didnt meet up with the standards of "life,liberty and the persuit of happyness." With the right to life liberty and the persuit of happyness (hearafter reffered to as LLPH) we have the responsability to ensure that people who have need are provided for and that people who work are also treated in an ethical way.This is why we have labor laws to protect people from being unreasonably exposed to things like dangerous work places and hazzardous materials.And also to be paid a fair and reasonable wage while working to keep employers from defacto enslaving people who have need of a job.

In 1938 Congress passed the minimum wage act.The determined that the minimum reasonable living wage for one person based on a 40 hour work week was .25 cents an hour.This was enough to keep a roof over your head,clothes on your back and food on your table.Adjusted for cost of living and inflation as of January one 2007 the Federal minimum wage should have been $16.40 an hour.If we are going to continue paying what ammount to slave wages to people who devote thier time and effort to jobs we need to give something else up in order to offset the unethical treatment they are currently recieving.

We do that in the form of food stamps, section 8 housing allowances, welfare payments, medical coupons and so forth.These things are required so that employers can continue to enjoy record low payroll expenses.dont get me wrong...I am not anti-employer.They are getting screwed too.from the top down we are all getting screwed.But until somebody figures out that we need to stop draining cash out of our economy and sending it to other countries,and figures out that we need to reign in our government spending and fix a few other issues like getting some decent jobs back into the country and curbing insurance companies that raise rates 40% to 50% after record profit years,we are stuck with government hand outs for the poor.Thats just the way it works.I dont fault anyone who wont work for a wage.The wages arent worth showing up for much less actualy doing any actual work for...so why bother?To get ahead? If you get a raise of .50 cents a year you will never reach what minimum wage should be (based on the increase of cost of living year after year and the standard set forth in 1938.) You never catch up.NEVER! great system we have here.
