You know one time I read the bible from cover to cover - the christian bible that is, and I really have to believe that very few people have ever read it cover to cover, there are parts that are really nasty. So I believe that most people just let their church leaders tell them what to think and how to act.

 

It's true. You read the old testament and then the new testament, and you wonder if they're really the same God. In the old testament, he condones murder, already against one of the commandments, he lets the Israelites go around, sacking cities, raping women and killing children, all in the name of cleansing the promised land, and even commits genocide on the widest scale by flooding the world in Noah's time. Now, we know that never happened, but even if you take it as a parable, that's pretty bad. And then in the new testament, Jesus preaches love, forgiving those who offend you and whatnot, its like "Wait, did God just have a change of heart?"

It's clear the bible was written by MEN, not inspired by God. So many contradictions.

Not just men, but primitive, ignorant men. They lived in a word haunted by demons, and were subject to some of the most primitive superstitions imaginable. They were blithely unaware of three-quarters of the Earth's surface, including the entire western hemisphere. Apparently their God was unaware if it as well, or at least he didn't mention it to any of them.

 

Now, now some of them even had the nerve to worship a Goddess or two or even three!

 

Well, yeah, there's a long tradition in Greek and Roman mythology. Men have always loved naked chicks with superhuman powers.

Those gods and goddesses were pretty earthy, too...they were always having sex with mortals.

 

But then again I would not mind worshiping a Goddess or two myself!

I stopped and thought hard before posting this. I really don't to offend anyone here, and I know people who would be apoplectic after seeing a post such as this. When I said you were trying to distract from your loosing argument, I was talking about your claim that witness testimony from people that had first hand empirical experience with regard to miraculous events, would not be admissible in a court of law. You are wrong about that. (see my reply.)

When I made my point you didn't refute it, you just called me pedantic for being precise and giving a complete and thorough explanation.


Remember this debate is not about believing in God. It started with my claim that science and the belief in God are compatible. I've presented quite a bit of evidence to support my claim. You have not produce one single fact for me to accept or refute... only your opinion and your entrenched disbelief.

Then you stated that the only way you could believe would be if God Himself came to you and performed something you called a verifiable miracle. I must admit I can't get you an audience with God but I can tell you that God is all around us and you can see him if you will only look. If you do you will see that you are an example of one of his most verifiable miracles. I truly hope that someday you will come to understand and then believe.

I know that some people will never see, understand or believe but I will not ridicule them or call them fools for not believing, why then do you call me delusional for seeing something you can't see. Do I seem short on intelligence, ignorant or mentally unstable to you?
