  2. Hello,

You can now get verified on forum.

The way it's gonna work is that you can send me a PM with a verification picture. The picture has to contain you and forum name on piece of paper or on your body and your username or my username instead of the website name, if you prefer that.

I need to be able to recognize you in that picture. You need to have some pictures of your self in your gallery so I can compare that picture.

Please note that verification is completely optional and it won't give you any extra features or access. You will have a check mark (as I have now, if you want to look) and verification will only mean that you are who you say you are.

You may not use a fake pictures for verification. If you try to verify your account with a fake picture or someone else picture, or just spam me with fake pictures, you will get Banned!

The pictures that you will send me for verification won't be public

    Best regards,

Um, 70 was not any older then as 70 is today. Life expectancy at birth has risen because fewer babies, children and teens die. But it was as normal as it is today to walk around with 70 and 80 year old men and women.

Back to the genesis of this thread

Let's just do a quick comparison with other classical texts.

The oldest manuscripts of the major works of Plato, Caesar, Cicero and Horace date from the 9th century; of Herodotus, Sophocles and Aristotle from the 10th; of Tacitus from the 11th—yet no one doubts that these manuscripts, though ever so many centuries later than their authors’ day, are, substantially, the uncorrupted descendants of the originals.

Nobody doubts that these guys existed. But because of the claims that are made for Jesus, and for the fact that they contain a Divine Law of belief and conduct, it becomes irksome to the irreligious.

Whoever would dismiss that Jesus was a real person must logically reject all references to other historical real people in all other ancient history and literature.

Author / Work / Date of writing / Earliest complete copy / Time span

    Sophocles Antigone 441 BCE. 10th 1550 years
    Herodotus History 440-425 BCE. 10th 1350 years
Thucydides Pelopon. War 411 BCE. 10th 1300 years
    Plato Republic 375 BCE. 9th 1300 years
    Aristotle Poetics 334 BCE. 10th 1300 years
Caesar Gallic Wars 52 BCE. 9th 950 years
Cicero De Senectute 44 BCE. 9th 900 years
Horace Satires 35 BCE. 9th cent. 850 years
    Tacitus Annals 110 A.D. 11th 1000 years
New Testament Evangelists, St Paul, etc. New Testament 50-90 A.D. Complete mms. by 95-120 A.D. Officially canonized in one work by 395 A.D.

Even if we assume the latest dates of writing [with almost 300 hundred years between the completed works and the actual writing] we must either conclude that Jesus existed, or none of these other guys did, either.

Don't they teach logic in America anymore? Or is it that you just don't want to believe? He was a real man.

Plato actually left behind his collective work, in his own hand writings even. Caesar was an Emperor of Rome who ruled one of the world's largest empires. His family tree & decedents can be traced. Jesus was only written about. Most often by men who lived centuries after he allegedly died.

Your train of thought is flawed.

A papyrus fragment of the Gospel According to St. John exists that seems to have been copied in the first half of the second century AD.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rylands_Library_Papyrus_P52

Complete copies of the New Testament on parchment exist from the fourth century AD.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Codex_Sinaiticus

The Gospel According to St. John is considered to be the last gospel written. If copies existed by the first half of the second century, it had to be written earlier, pushing the dates of the other three gospels even earlier. The author of John has probably read the Gospel According to St. Luke, although he does not seem to have a copy as he wrote.

The author of the Gospel According to St. Luke clearly uses the Gospel According to St. Mark as a source, and suggested as much in his introduction. The informed consensus holds that Luke, and Acts were really written by St. Luke, who was a traveling companion to St. Paul, who was martyred before 66 AD.

Half of the New Testament consists of epistles that even secular scholars attribute to St. Paul. St. Paul and St. Luke do not claim to be eye witnesses to the ministry of Jesus, but they certainly had access to people who were.

    Yes.
He was half extraterrestrial (God), and half human (Virgin Mary).

(Extraterrestrial from the Latin words: extra ("beyond", or "not of") and‎ terrestris ("of or belonging to Earth")) is defined as life that does not originate from Earth)

I ask you this: are those tendrils of outdated information really enough to base the origin of the entire universe on?

Because believing this Jesus dude was the son of god also means you believe that god created the universe. The info above is the best you can come up with?

What I posted is the contemporary informed consensus. The topic of this thread is, "Did Jesus actually ever exist?" and not, "Does God exist?"

Now as it happens, I believe that the probable answer to both questions is "Yes," but the answer to one can be 'Yes" and the answer to the other can be "No."

Also, I do not claim to be able to prove either.

Must be more to it as Religious beliefs since "Time Immemorial" have referred to some sort of afterlife and the proper preparations for the soul's voyage to it.
So it seems that if we have this innate belief in bedded in us then it must be something that we know for sure.

2153 answers and none of them definitive. If all the christians say a prayer this coming Monday asking for an indisputable sign from god to be made on Wednesday at 12 noon GMT, then we will know one way or the other if he exists.

CORNELIUS TACITUS (55 - 120 A.D.) Tacitus was a 1st and 2nd century Roman historian who lived through
the reigns of over half a dozen Roman emperors. Considered one of the greatest historians of ancient Rome,
Tacitus verifies the Biblical account of Jesus' execution at the hands of Pontius Pilate who governed Judea from
26-36 A.D. during the reign of Tiberius.

"Christus, the founder of the [Christian] name, was put to death by Pontius Pilate, procurator of Judea in the
reign of Tiberius. But the pernicious superstition, repressed for a time, broke out again, not only through Judea,
where the mischief originated, by through the city of Rome also." Annals XV, 44

THE BABYLONIAN TALMUD The Babylonian Talmud is an ancient record of Jewish history, laws, and rabbinic
teachings compiled throughout the centuries. Though it does not accept the divinity of Jesus, it confirms the belief
He was hanged (an idiom for crucifixion) on the eve of the Passover.

"On the eve of the Passover Yeshu (Jesus) [Some texts: Yeshu/Jesus the Nazarene] was hanged [crucified].
Forty days before the execution, a herald went forth and cried, 'He is going forth to be stoned because he has
practiced sorcery and enticed Israel to apostasy. Any one who can say anything in his favor, let him come
forward and plead on his behalf.' But since nothing was brought forward in his favor he was hanged on the eve of
    the Passover."
