Aramaic was the trade language of the region. It was the common spoken tongue. Babies learn to talk without learning to read. Even you managed that much, I'm sure. Your average dirt farmer from bronze-age palestine would not have been burdened with an over-abundance of literacy. They certainly would not have been able to read greek. If they were traders they might speak a little greek, but that's the most we could expect.

It's also how we know that none of the supposed apostles actually wrote the gospels. The earliest copies were written in high greek decades later, something which none of them, with the exception of Peter, maybe, would have known. And to suggest that they left Palestine after Jesus' death and traveled to Greece-where they then would have studied for several decades-is stretching credibility, even for someone with such a slack mind as you.

His reasoning is because the character Jesus has a definite personality. That's it? That's the best rationale you have? The bible is filled with contradictions. To use it to support your already weak claim just further undercuts your position. If all it takes is a definite personality then I suppose we have to say Beowulf was a real guy, too. Hercules, perhaps?

I would say that there is a reasonably good chance that Beowulf did live.

Nordic mythology remembered Attila the Hun as late as the thirteenth century when the Poetic Edda, the Prose Edda, and the Völsunga Saga were written down in Iceland.

The Nibelungenlied, which was written in Germany the same time also remembers Attila.

The scholarly consensus is that there actually was a Trojan War in the thirteenth century B.C. Homer wrote about it during the eighth century B.C. after a period of several centuries when the art of writing ceased to exist in Greece.

The gospels were written much sooner after the presumed life of Jesus, so they are likely to be more accurate.

 

The absolute best you can say is he probably lived. Or that he is an amalgamation of several people. That's it. Doing otherwise is just making shit up.
