I read that yesterday, and what's happening in our country scares me to death...We are going backwards, and that's never good...Unfortunately, too many people here agree with these new Arizona laws...

 

How is this going backwards?

I have no love for the GOP however if the course meets the said criteria how is that going foward?

I would like more information on what prompted this bill, seems funny that this is happening so soon after the California school thing.

Who gets to decide what classes do and don't meet these criteria? It's entirely subjective.

 

Moreso, it's entirely harmful to our political culture: essentially, white washing vast sections of our history. I guess we can't talk about abolition, or Jim Crow, or the civil rights movement in the 60s? Are woman considered a "class"? No suffrage, no sexual revolution?

 

I guess it's still okay to study the American Revolution, though, since they weren't overthrowing the U.S. government...just the government they had at the time.

 

Do you think this includes the Civil War?

 

It's probably exempted in the fine print somewhere. But you do probably have to avoid talking about most of Arizona history...the periods when it wasn't run by white people.

 

But, really? What could you possibly learn from the struggles of the indigenous peoples of Arizona?

 

To a point it is subjective.

How do we balance it?

We have the 1st addmendment and the exceptions exstablished by the court system.

Some of the exceptions are Defamation, Causing panic, Fighting words, Incitement to a crime, Sedition, ect.

We also have Harassment Laws.

The easiest answer to your question is the judicial system.

That's all I remember from several years of high school spanish and I know I butchered the spelling.

 

This has nothing to do with illegal immigration dee-dee. This is about the 70% White people in Arizona telling the black and brown and yellow and red and purple people their histories and cultures aren't worth being studied.

If the 70% of @ 4,000,000 adults were polled with the alleged 500k to a million extra adults wandering around Arizona, I'll bet they'd lose the vote.

Please, this is an American-speaking forum. There are no shortage of foreigners who pay us the courtesy of speaking our language - don't speak a language that they probably don't know.

You are in no position to tell the residents of Arizona anything King Nothing, are you? On the contrary dee-dee, my people fault a long and bloody civil war precisely for the reason to beat the bigot out of your people.

Luckily, we don't have to do that anymore. We can starve the beast instead. I heard on CNN today that Arizona has directly lost $150m in pre-existing contracts since passing immigration reform. The contracts that never were are incalculable. Particularly because the people that WANT illegal immigrants run the companies that sign big contracts! :laughing:

Regardless, this discussion has NOTHING to do with illegal immigration.
