If you think you are being treated unfairly it is a good idea to talk to your boss about it, but you should try not to be confrontational. Once I went to the personnel office to discuss problems with my boss. That was extremely risky, but it helped. The thing I kept in mind was that no one had any obligation to help me. When things got better I did not try to press my luck. It is always a good idea to know when to stop.

In a bad work environment one should try to see the big picture. In particular, figure out how your boss is percieved of by those above him or her in the hierachy. In the situation where I went to the personnel office, my boss's boss was a close personal friend, and had been for years. They played golf together, and so on. However, the administration of the company thought my boss was a problem. One should try to figure out things like that without asking too many direct questions. Listen well.

Also, whenever you are with a group of people, you should suspect that anything you tell anyone might be told to anyone or everyone else.

In a job it is a good idea to know what you need to do in order to be successful. It may be that what you need to do you do not want to do. It may be that you cannot do it. But you should understand what is necessary.

That sounds kind of obvious. However, one time in a blue collar environment I listened to classical music while I worked. When I learned that the music was alienating my co-workers from me I thought it should not bother them. Well, it did.

 

I see certain members on here 24/7, not like that is a bad thing but it is obvious few if any here actually work...do you? If I did not work I would have tons of posts. The kid margin on this site has to be 30 percent.
