Take a cucumber, hallow it out and use that. Basically any vegetable or fruit that's naturally juicy and is big enough. A cucumber can be peeled to make a great dildo as well.

 

I once made one out of a paper towel roll, a plastic bag, tissue paper and Vaseline. I happen to lathe stuff. Have made some small wood dildo...no good, dry you up and finishes are risky. Made a butt plug out of solid aluminum that fits my size and needs perfectly. The method to make a mold and such is correct, but I would not use the fricking hot glue. Look into food grade molding materials (Tap Plastics). Spendy stuff, by the way.

The aluminum one was not cheap, probably $10 of aluminum to make it.

 

I made a couple of dildos using platinum cure silicone. I used the hard plastic packaging case the original dildo came in, as a mold. Awesome.

Not sure what you mean by "logistical issues"? Problems? The goal of course is to produce a linear stroke, which is not something you can just "buy" in another product and convert it. The only thing close to that is a "Sawsall" reciprocating saw. But the stroke is too short (you can buy attachements for dildos at porn sites).
