  2. Hello,

You can now get verified on forum.

The way it's gonna work is that you can send me a PM with a verification picture. The picture has to contain you and forum name on piece of paper or on your body and your username or my username instead of the website name, if you prefer that.

I need to be able to recognize you in that picture. You need to have some pictures of your self in your gallery so I can compare that picture.

Please note that verification is completely optional and it won't give you any extra features or access. You will have a check mark (as I have now, if you want to look) and verification will only mean that you are who you say you are.

You may not use a fake pictures for verification. If you try to verify your account with a fake picture or someone else picture, or just spam me with fake pictures, you will get Banned!

The pictures that you will send me for verification won't be public

Dispelling some common myths re weight gain:

    • Not every overweight person has overactive thyroids
    • Not every overweight person is either on medication or is overweight because of a direct result of illness
    • You don't 'eat for two' during pregnancy. In fact, for the pregnancy and delivery of a child, the less weight you gain, the better. A quick check on Google tells me that, a third of the weight gained is from baby, placenta and fluids. Although weight gain is common, you should be eating healthily, AND exercising during pregnancy!!
Here's how, unless you are overweight because of either or any of the above, you can reduce your weight (back to diet 101 stuff again here folks)

    • Reduce portion sizes: buy smaller plates!! Stop filling those giant SERVING plates with food at every meal
    • Stop grazing: Give your body a chance to relax and digest your food between meals
    • Cut out sweet, sugar laden foods: Easily done, find naturally sweet alternatives: Fruit, for instance!!
    • Exercise: Leave your car at home more often and walk. If you really are too far away from your destination and public transport is for shit in your area, buy a fucking bike!! Exercise needn't be hours down at the gym lifting weights, try walking briskly enough that you break sweat and actually get your heart pumping!!
    • Cut down/out fatty foods: Self explanatory folks - fancy a bacon sandwich? Try grilled bacon over fried!! Even better, invest money in a George Foreman grill or similar!!
    • Modify your food intake to suit your lifestyle: Manual workers need to eat more calories, but they burn it off. If your day job involves sitting at a desk, eat less calories!!

No, not impossible at all. It's called 'medication management'. Not all diabetics are overweight, it is possible to control the disease without piling on the pounds!!

My low bmi means I am not contributing to my own ill-health. I don't 'work out' as such, but I do a manual job AND I eat healthily. Eating badly is a sign of laziness.

I'm in with the "no excuses" crowd. Even with medications, stress, thyroid issues, there is still little to no excuse for such obesity.

Look a century back. We're being to successful and killing ourselves in our own inventiveness.

Jesus Christ people, put the fried chicken down. Or at least go do some exercise.

There's lots of misinormation in this thread.

There is one major factor when it comes to gaining fat, it is called Insulin. Insulin is a storage hormone, it is what tells your body to store fat.

Eating Protein and dietary fat do not spike insulin levels, carbohydrates do. Not just sugar either, all carbohydrates do. Pasta, breads, rice, whole grains are all readily converted into glucose by our bodies during digestion. If you look at a pack of food and it has any amount of carbohydrates listed, count it as sugar. That means the typical serving of pasta has 40-50grams of Sugar in it.

This is why obesity is such a huge problem now. The nutritional authorities out there have convinced everyone that grains are a healthy part of your diet, when in fact they are the #1 cause of blood sugar fluctuations and weight gain, particularly around the belly.

I eat TONS of fat every day. Fat from nuts, oils, and fat from meats, and you could wash clothes on my abs. What I don't eat is carbohydrates from grains. I do eat carbs from fruits, but they're different.

Also, eating crap food and working off the fat by exercising is not healthy either. Change your diet and you won't even have to work out to stay lean.

That is so not true!! Everyone needs some amount of cardio exercise every day - otherwise, the heart (which is also a muscle, don't forget), will get fat deposits on it, which in turn, will mean the heart will have to pump harder to get the blood flowing, leading to...........?

You gottit - exhaustion. The heart can, literally, explode within your chest cavity. Major, major heart attack!!

Not only that, but eating too much 'protein' can lead to fatty deposits on the liver, which in turn will develop into liver failure.

And then there's 'muscle tone'. Just your basic walking around burns off some (limited) amounts of calories, and tones muscle to a degree. For instance, I do a manual job. I don't have the muscle tone as someone who lifts weights, but I bet I have more stamina. Why? Because it's part of my daily routine. My muscles aren't 'overly developed', but I'm a lot - soo much - stronger than someone who works out not at all.

The body is a self-contained unit. One cannot pander to one part of said unit, leaving all the other parts to fend for themselves. If you do that, then the body will break down, part by part.

I spoke to a doctor recently regarding diabetes (one of my relatives was ill, something unrelated, but the doc, who was a diabetic himself, actually read the notes during a home visit!!) This doctor is of the opinion that diabetes is able to be self-controlled, without the use of (at least as many) drugs as is being prescribed for sufferers at the present time. He believes that more exercise is the key. Maybe it's something for diabetics to consider - going for a more holistic approach to regulating the disease, rather than becoming reliant on medication. (The aloe vera plant, for instance, can help diabetics control the disease early on: a natural alternative to the chemicals the pharmaceutical companies would have us push into our bodies!!)

Walking isn't the kind of exercise I was referring to. Being sedentary is not healthy, people spend far too much time sitting and laying down.

The exercise I'm referring to is the mass amounts of cardio that people do to burn off the crap they eat. It is not healthy, period. Change your diet and your body will NOT store fat, stop spiking your insulin levels so consistently.

You know what I do for exercise? I lift weights two or three times a week, for half an hour each time, and I'm really really lean all because of my diet.

And you're talking about not neglecting one facet of the body for another but earlier in this thread you pretty much said eat all the crap you want as long as you work it off.

Crap food including grains is not 1/10th as nutritional as good food. Work the fat off all you want, you could still be much healthier.

Diabetes is a neolithic disease caused by our diets. I personally have talked to people that have dropped grains and cured their diabetes. Literally cured it.

Forget what doctors say, they know more about selling prescriptions than they do about real nutrition.

Protein does not add fatty deposits to the liver. I onsume upwards of 300grams of protein a day, and I have zero issues. Don't buy that crap, proteins and fats are good for you.

    You're exactly right

I mean that sandwich could be healthier, but the worst thing on there is probably the breadcrumb coating on the chicken.

Other than that there's probably 30ish grams of protein in that thing, if not 40ish, and very low carbs.

Overly processed foods like bacon and that cheese aren't great, but compared to a bread bun, it's definitely healthier. A bun essentially adds 20-30+ grams
    of sugar to a burger.

I can't eat most of it anyways, being a vegetarian. However, if they started taxing chocolate I think a part of me would die on the inside.

Oh god, that'd be bad. Anything but the chocolate! I enjoy being a vegetarian, but the alternatives to eating out or the Chow Hall are terrible. Nothing but carbs and processed foods.

I'm an avid believer in the "Hate my body" routine. I start out with an intense workout or run followed by a couple of run through's of calisthenics.

Keeps me sane and also keeps my anger in check. :p

    That very well could be

here you can go to Red Robin and order a burger wrapped in lettuce instead of a bun, but Red Robin isn't really fast food.
