And let's not forget (and you know I won't or let Ace forget either) the Tea Party staked their whole being on this race. They even went out there to fire Harry Reid. Now they are getting him elected.

There's no reason to be surprised at the NRA's endorsement of Harry Reid. Ultimately, they're practical. Reid is the Democratic leader of the Senate. Reid is also a staunch and consistent supporter of the NRA's version of the second amendment. He's a known quantity with real power and proven reliability. Angle's a nobody. Even if they're both A candidates, she's unknown and will be a freshmen.

NRA's a whole lot of fucked up, but it's not partisan.

 

Did I say he signed it, pay attention, he championed it.

 

Harry Reid probably still can't quite believe his good fortune. He went from being perhaps the most vulnerable senator in the country to running neck-in-neck with a certifiable nutcase. Even the handlers brought in from DC seem unable to prevent Angle from saying all these heinous things.

I think the NRA supposedly being non-partisan is about the most ridiculous claim I've ever heard. I know that's exactly why I tore up my life membership and mailed it back to them. Because they were promoting not only conservative/Republican candidates they were also promoting the conservative/Republican agenda.

The only reason the NRA is making this deal is because Reid has been instrumental in blocking legislation they don't want from getting to the floor. And the fact that Reid is smart enough to corner the NRA in his favor I think speaks highly of his intelligence.

Especially in light of the money Sharron Angle has invested in photo ops of her shooting guns and stuff.

I'll bet she's pissed enough to use one on the NRA.

 

Nixon was in a bit of a box, since Pat Nixon was an ardent supporter of the ERA, as was Gerald Ford, I think.

 

I'm not a member, and this is one of several reasons why I am not,,,,,political whores just political whores,, they have no substance anymore....

 

Reid has long known that he can't win in Nevada advocating for gun control, nor can any other Senate candidate. It's just a fact of life. They probably ARE supporting him because of his clout.

 

You're not kidding. Reid was the focal point, the very lightening rod for conservative/Republican/Tea Bagger wrath in a state with the highest unemployment rate in the nation. I think his approval rating was something like 30% or something. But now he's pulled to within one of Angle and the way she's running her mouth I bet he finishes about 87% reflecting the 13% of people still willing to admit they belong to the Tea Party.

 

I seem to recall George H.W. Bush renouncing his membership in the NRA, too...only he did it out of principle, unable to stomach some of their more extreme positions. So, arguably, he was NOT a political whore -- but the jury is still out on you.

 

I didn't think we needed a jury for that.

 

As far as I could tell the NRA never did have any substance other than to milk money and support out of gun supporters dumb enough to think they really gave a shit about them or their guns.

But at one time the NRA was the word next to God's out here.

I think that's it exactly. Which should question how much liberal support Reid should have in Nevada. But if its like Wyoming it doesn't matter if he pisses all five of them off.

 

It happened on his watch, you give all sorts of credit to lesser Presidents for weaker action.

 

That to me sounds like the definition of non-partisan. They also endorsed Howard Dean in the 2004 Democratic presidential primary - which could have made a real difference in the little bullshit states at the beginning of the primaries and been a huge boon to the liberal agenda.

Any politics involves horsetrading. If the majority of their elected officials need help passing something important to the officials, you do it. It may cost some members (you, for example), but if it allows them to achieve objectives important to the organization - so be it. I'm in the Deep South organizing for the most liberal labor union in the country. You think the rednecks that run my canal pumps like our politics? No. But they understand that the politics we do gives us power and lets us get them a better deal with their boss.

It depends how important the second amendment is to you. I'm a lifetime member since 2004.
