First and foremost take a look at this thread and what you're actually seeing is the good, the bad, and the ugly that makes this forum completely unique in my experience and the most anti censorship, pro free speech forum on the internet.

It also helps make it the most intellectually stimulating and informative pile of misfits anywhere on earth.

The selection of moderators must reflect that in order to preserve it and this thread with all its hatred, name calling, and personal attacks shows the administrators of this site choose well.

I believe two things here ShakeZula. One, it takes a very strong and well adjusted individual to be impartial especially when under attack or confronted with past adversaries. And second I've seen you display that kind of strength many times.

Actually I think being abusive when expressing opinions is an art form around here. Its like a mental contact sport. And this thread is a great example of that.:excited: ...........

But instead of being what would be a bannable offense on all other forums I've seen or participated in, this is acceptable by our standards, and those standards actually bestow richness on us.

Look at the wealth of information on display about Deidre's resentment of authority. Look at the psychology on display. Note the obsessive/compulsive behavior. And by all means the anger and hatred that rages even after a year or more because the moderators here refused to play Deidre's games.

This is what makes us all one big happy dysfunctional, delusional, and overly dramatic family.

But I disagree when it comes to ShakeZula because I've had so many extended battles with him and he is one of the very few that even in the heat of battle and raging personal attacks will admit defeated points or acknowledge points on the weight of evidence not personal ideology.

Its a jungle around here and hate is a primary fuel for lots of people on this forum. But that is the price of freedom. There's no way I can limit what someone else says or how they express themselves except by also limiting my own free speech and expression and I'm not willing to have my freedom of speech denied by anyone even if that means I have to put up with a lot of speech and people I can't hardly stand.

I had a thread of mine closed. Mind you, it wasn't as easy as just asking if they'd do it. I asked the godmod during his reign of tremor and he took it right off the boards. Stupid prick that he was.

Pookey put it back as best as he could, and then locked it for me. Bless the little Pookmeister, wherever he might be!!

 

Really, when I said 'impartial', I misspoke. There isn't much need for impartiality on this forum because we don't moderate or settle disputes and we don't punish members for... shall we say, colorful behavior. Behavior I myself have been guilty of, often enough. The list of things you are punished for can be counted on one hand: Kiddie porn (or any images of children), beastiality, scat, spamming and, in extremely rare cases, creating sock accounts specifically with the intent of harassing other members.

Let's say I got a bug up my ass and decided I was going to ban Deirdre just because he'd gotten on my nerves one particular day. Even if I did, the other mods, any of them–despite their personal feelings–would swoop in, unban him and most likely ban me themselves. So Deirdre would find himself unbanned in a matter of hours and I'd be sent packing.

I rather like being a mod so I'm not going to be carrying out any personal vendettas anytime soon. But I'll tell you something I told piggit and Chunky when they first invited me onboard. The reason I like it the most is because I know how much it annoys the shit out of DL, Deidre and I'm sure Monkey, if he's watching. And I know how much it annoys them because we do have this idea that Mods sit above the rest in judgement of all the posters and mete out justice as they see fit, like a ruling class. So, in their mind, that puts me in a position of authority over their forum lives and they can't bloody stand it. That tickles me to death. :mrgreen:

The problem is that it's just not true. I don't have any real authority over their comings and goings on the forum. Sure, I could cause a little trouble, but it wouldn't get me anywhere. Mods here aren't all-powerful overlords that scrutinize every post for misbehavior and wait for any insult from some lowly peon so they can come in and crush that poster with their mighty ban power. But just because this forum is different doesn't mean that those who hate me don't feel like I'm holding a sword over their head and waiting for any excuse to kick them. Sure I could, but where would it get me?

At the very least, I'd lose my mod privileges at worst, might get banned myself. A ban wouldn't stop me if I wanted to come back, those are easy to circumvent if one knows how, but what would be the point? The respect I have from those posters I also respect would be gone. I would no longer be welcome. I would be cast out and more reviled then Deidre is by some and more so than I am reviled by a handful of others. My crime would be greater than name calling. I would have upset the equilibrium in the community, would have violated that trust that, even among all the fighting, exists here. People trust that they can say just about anything they want and they are allowed to express themselves freely with anonymity and safety from censorship. It's kind of like an unspoken tie that binds us all together.

If you think I'm exaggerating, think back to when Xyber went crazy. Remember how unstable and violated we all felt. Not just because of the damage he'd caused but because of the trust that had been abused. And it was the same with Pookey. Even when he came back, it wasn't the same. He'd lied about something that, even among liars, you aren't supposed to lie about. We didn't hate him for it but... I guess you could say the magic was gone.

So if I want to remain on this forum, I have to play by the rules.

It would be fun to fuck around with DL and Deidre with my mod access. Screw with their posts, delete them, whatever, but in the end it would only hurt me. Not only would it give them the satisfaction of screaming to all who will listen 'I told you so!' but even if I wasn't banned for the abuse the rest of the forum would turn against me without exception because I violated that which is almost sacred.

And as far as antagonizing DL and Deidre, I don't have to do much more than keep the "Moderator" link in my sig line. They give me all the power in their minds, even though that's the only place that it exists. I need do nothing else but carry out my responsibilities exactly as I'm required and I will remain like a splinter under their fingernails.

And thats all I need to put a smile on my face. :awesome:

At least one of the mods is awake and paying attention - I don't know if anyone else saw it but the forum just got blasted by a (Turkish?) spammer about 20 minutes ago, there was a post appearing about every two minutes here and in the Forum Games.

They've all suddenly vanished, so well done whoever that was!

 

I had no intention of directly insulting SZ. Rather my intention was to express my dismay at what I considered a fuck-up by Chunky and Piggit in their decision to make SZ a mod. In reflection, it seems I managed to insult all involved. Oh well, a little colateral damage is not a crime on this forum :twisted: Is it? And the "spray pattern" didn't even hit the walls... SZ's a tough guy. I congrats'd him and recieved his response.

Our long years of shared experience on this forum (often bloody and with much worse spray patterns) leads me to believe we have reached the "nuff said" point. In this I think I am correct. But I could be wrong...
