The Gospel of St. John begins with assertion of the divinity of Jesus.

Here we see that the Word is God. Reading further, we see that the Word is also Jesus.

Now in the gospels, Jesus is clearly subordinate to God the Father. Nevertheless, in this and other passages the divinity of Jesus is asserted in the Gospel of St. John. The doctrine that Jesus, God the Father, and God the Holy Ghost are alike in power and majesty developed later.
