You mean a rule like "Don't consistently lie that you are suffering abuse at the hands of the moderators and the admins and then when given a chance to prove your claims by the boss man himself and get retribution, give a big 'fuck you' to the admin of the website'?

Yes I do think that the flames were fanned by several members, not just in the "poll" thread but in going into other threads and haranguing other members to "prove" that Deidre was unfairly criticizing the mods.

On the record, I frankly do not know if she was lying or not, but I do know that several other members are not above that tactic to get what they want.

This is the part that puzzles me. When the "poll" thread was getting too hot, I PM'ed first a mod, then all the mods to see why this was allowed to happen. The answer that I got was at first understandable, but then it got weird.

Soon after a mod commented that he asked two of the antagonists to "cool it", why did that occur if there was no problem with that thread?

 

I didn't pm AR and stumbler as a mod and the request was not made in any official capacity. I asked that they 'cool it' as a favor to me. It was not over that specific thread, either.

What am I being punished for again ShakeZula, speaking my mind and giving an opinion? Does that really carry so much weight here that you all get so unhinged and start the bonfires for my personal burning? Not everyone here is going to get along and the majority has no problem with the mods nor should they, because I have had disagreements with them in the past that I considered maybe unfair, maybe not, am I so wrong? It has been a non issue with me other than the first couple of posts I made in the mod thread and I was wrong to express myself like that I will admit. Why others wouldn't let it go is beyond me. Most of you keep saying I have been spreading vicious lies about the mods to other members and that is simply not true. I have never went out of my way to slander or say anything to anyone that they are so unfair to me to the level I am accused of. Why does everyone get off slighting me is what I want to know. I was surprised that you were selected and honestly went crazy, I have admitted this and I was wrong. If you all want an apology before I leave here...I seriously want everyone to be able to sleep at night without cursing my name.

It's easy to see where she was coming from...right or wrong.

There has been a lot of name calling between her and mods. It doesn't really matter any more who started it. Then admin chooses more mods she has problems with, too. More name calling ensues even at admin for naming them.

This type of communication does not lend itself well for working out issues because it takes too long to have any kind of rational discussion. It didn't take long to figure out this one possible ending. This will likely happen again with someone else in the future.

I wish I knew how to prevent it other than to delete every post that offered some kind of personal attack. If that is the net result then this will become a rather quiet forum.

I don't want that either.

It is when the rules are infracted. There is little to no tolerance when that happens.

We have an interesting set of circumstances here, IMO.

We have a member who openly criticized several other members, causing all kinds of flame wars and general discontent. This same member then criticized the mods for real or imagined preferential treatment of others.

At the apex of this brouhaha, we have a mod telling other members to "cool it" because apparently they are taking things too far. From what I gather this mod did not tell the offending member to "cool it" but instead proceeded to pile coal on the fire with wise assed replies to the offender.

Is this or is this not preferential treatment?

 

I don't think you know what preferential treatment is.

 

A mod who has absolutely no power to get revenge on those I disagree with. You keep assigning me power and abilities I do not have and I have to constantly correct you regarding that.

The very first sentence. Before I even explain what the favor is. I make it very clear that my request is as a personal favor to me, not a command from this fictitious, all-powerful mod. And I did it for purely selfish reasons, not because I felt bad about all the heat she was taking or because what I thought was going on was against forum policy.

See, this is where things get sticky. deidre charged into the new moderators thread with barrels a-blazing. Her consistent fuck yous in that thread happened long before the poll thread. The posts there were not new; they were a consistent pattern and not out of character.

I will not say that she was unaffected by the threads in GD over the last few days ... I would have been. Just as I was affected by her repeated accusations against me. You will notice that I never posted in the threads about liking or disliking deidre. I normally steered clear of any 'popularity contest' threads. I did not inflame deidre, but continually endured her nasty attacks.

I cannot speak for Shake ... but I believe he addressed that question earlier in this thread. Is it possible that he was trying to diffuse the situation without breaking nophest's rules about deleting threads? You'll have to ask him.

Iono. I can't think of a logical reason to listen to idiocy. If anything I have heard in passing or if anything I thought myself caused any doubt, then perhaps I would look into it.
