I use a Canon SLR, the XSi to be specific. the lens is just the average one that comes with it; i've yet to upgrade. i don't have a remote or tripod so any shots that i have to set up involve some creativity. The filesizes are too large for xnxx so i generally batch resize with Picasa as needed, although these recent ones were resized with Paint since I was just using my notebook.

Get yourself a sandbag if you don't have the budget for a decent tripod (Sandbags are often actually better than super expensive tripods are for some tasks, so it is a good tool to have in your photographer's gearbag)

As for the remote, have you tried using Canon's software to control the camera from a laptop? Assuming you have a decently long USB cord kicking around. You can also make the remotes for most Rebel class bodies fairly easy if you're a handy kind of person, basically using a pair of cheap headphones.

But you can also get some great wireless remotes out of cheap Chinese companies online.

Really wish I could work with you for an afternoon or two. I never seem to get an excuse to play with anything remotely complex when it comes to flash photography.
