I'm a pre-school teacher and I love my job and find it very rewarding despite the poor pay. I know there are other jobs that I could do that would be easier and pay more, but I would be bored to death. I can't imagine how anyone could do a job that was the same day after day. However I have friends who think I'm crazy to do the job I do and like the predictability of their work.

 

Me. My boss is ghetto. She's developed a clique (typical) and has everybody out of that clique absolutely miserable. I have some resumes out there.

I'd like to work in a Public Safety Agency. Once a month, rotate between firefighter, dispatcher and patrol officer.

I put Bricks on top of each other and sometimes they stay in place and other times they move a bit, I get money for doing this.

I like Bricks, they don't speak and generally they are the same size so it makes counting easy, some Architects think that we can adjust the size of Bricks to fit their great plans, often I say that this is possible but the building may look better if we stick to conventional methods..

Especially when the said building is a fucking Garage.

 

Now I'm44 and been an Admin. Asistant for almost 20 years now. you could say i'm a secretary but its a secretary to a CEO of a company. i make just over $16 an hour so the pay isn't too bad with hubby being a chef. i rather enjoy my job tho.

 

I did until recently. Thank god I'm back in my old department, happily working my ass off.

 

My job is pretty awesome, cant complain...I work at a very high class gas station...theres actually a pizzeria in the place. Anyway, I am usually the only clerk working...the pay is actually amazing, and my favorite part, is I have the right to refuse anyone service...mostly I refuse black people who come in with food stamps who buy candy and soda..or the occasional dickhead who thinks hes too high class to wait in line.

Funny story...this guy with a suit walks in and theres a line. He throws his $20 on the counter, yells out his pump, and as hes walkin out I told him "Sir you need to wait" he says "What the fuck do I have to wait for?" I then flicked his money off the counter and told him to take his money somewhere else. He then starts yelling at me, threatening me, saying he makes my yearly wage in a day, and walks out. Then, amazingly, I watch him start his car and he makes it 5 feet and runs out of gas. As I clear the customers I walk outside for a smoke and laugh at him. He then has to push his car across the street to a shitty Circle K, that sells their gas for 10cents more. Suck on that douchebag.

There are four baisic elements to a job that make up our relative satasfaction at work as I see it.

1) You like your boss/company owner and he is competent and fair.
2) You like your co-workers and they are competent.
3) You like what you do and get some level of satisfaction out of doing it.
4) You get paid enough to make you relatively happy.

Most jobs are saddly lacking in at least one or two of these important elements and many are lacking in three or all four.

If your boss/company owner is an incompetent moron who makes bad decisions and doesnt even realy understand what his troops are dealing with in the trenches it makes it very hard to be satisfied at work.

If your co-workers are incompetent you spend an inordinate amout of time fixing thier fuckups and or covering for them and if they are jerks they are just...well...you wanna push them down a flight of stairs.

If you realy hate the work you do and or feel like all you do is spin your wheels and accomplish nothing for the greater good of scociety or at least your customers its hard to wake up in the morning and smile.

If you arent getting paid enough to pay your bills and support yourself and still have a little extra left over to have some fun with once in a while and still feel reasonably safe then its hard not to wonder why your wasting your time doing it.

I have seached and searched for a job that has all four elements wrapped up in one nice tidy little bundle but unfortunatly I havent found it yet. And with shrinking wages and a glut of qualified employees in the market for jobs its hard to imagine that I ever will.

So as I see it...look for the little things that make you happy and dont live for your job. Work to live dont, live to work, as someone once put it. Find your greatest satisfaction in whatever you can and go with it.If your job is it, great! But if not, then just keep an eye out for something better and cling to the things outside of your job that make you smile...well...do that anyway...but dont sweat it if your job sucks.

I would think someone in a low wage job he hates would be susceptible to the politics of envy, and be drawn to the left. However, many direct their anger horizontally or downward rather than upward, and are attracted to right wing politics.

 

true enough. Altho there are good points and bad points to either left or right. The real trick is to find the right balance between them that makes for a more reasonable system where work is properly rewarded rather than over or under rewarded.

 

I HATE!

 

I fucking loathe my job!! Early mornings, late nights, always got to be on hand - even at the weekend!! There's manual work as well as office stuff, manual can include anything from cleaning up sheep shit to repair stone walls. Office work is that kind of stuff you do with paper - file/staple/shred, depending on what mood you're in!!

And as for my boss!! Well, she's a right bitch

Among my friends for about 80% can not stand today's workplace, but they have no other options, and they have to for the sake of the family to remain there.

since the first day at both of them ive come so far.. done so much.. seen so much.. met so many people.. and learned SO many things.. in fact even as i continue to finish school and discover more about what i want to do with my7 life.. i find more and more i reterun to the idea that no matter what i do in life..

i would still love the oppertunity to be behind a bar serving drinks.. shooting the shit.. and getting paid.. i love bar tending!!

Why do I refuse to sell black people with food stamps candy and soda? Simple I say...

The American tax payer has a job, because he works he must pay taxes to support his government, the government takes his hard earned money, and instead of doing something important with it, or giving it to the hard worker, he gives it to the "struggling black man" who has no job and sits around drinking 40s all day. So when they come in, grab a bunch of soda and candy, throw it on my counter and say "Y'ALL TAKE FOOD STAMPS" I simply reply "No, we dont accept tax payer money, do you have real money?" They then say no, get angry and leave. Its simple economics, people need to know they have to work in order to get things, its unfair that people get a free hand out because they are fucking stupid.
