I disagree.

From what I have seen over the past two and half years, is that the great majority of "New Members" who post total nonsense (gibberish, a letter, a number, whatever) as a 'post' in order to achieve ten posts end up disappearing before they have ELEVEN POSTS. They are annoying 'fly-by-nighters'.

It makes no sense to ban them, because they are going to disappear in a week anyway.

REAL new members actually come aboard, contribute, albeit tentatively at first, eventually build up friendships and show their personalities.

Because of this, I think the 'ten post trial' is essentially useless. We are going to deal with the brain-dead in any case.

 

I'm not offended, and appreciate the gesture. what is a curly wurly, anyway? i have always wondered that.

That's what we've been discussing here. There used to be one, but apparently it was removed awhile back. Ejls, one of our moderators, has asked the administration to replace it.

But even worse are the ones which drudge up 3-5 year old threads saying: "POST MORE!!!!" when it's been dead for more than 2-3 years!

 

I think it should be rasied to 25 or so posts. At least then we'd know that the person would be a real participant in the community. It would also give creditablity to the person posting.

From my (limited) experience, the most annoying, useless, pathetic, brain dead people post way more than their ten threads. I'd rather see someone saying gr8 than someone saying "oh yeah Obama is a Muslim loving n*****." Newbies dont tend to do that. Just the retards. Like CFH.

 

We had this in Canada ages ago but it was called a Wig-Wag. It used to be my favourite.

Let me tell you about the adult board I own together with a friend from Denmark. We're both super-admins there, but currently it's "asleep". When we started we decided that we didn't want leechers, we wanted an active community, people who commented the pictures and movies that others uploaded and posted. So we installed two barriers. The first one was our introduction thread. Everybody who registered was led there, now he/she had to post an individual introduction. One of us read them, and then decided to approve that guy or not; some people even improved their introductions when they failed. The second barrier was the so-called "Reply Rate": We hated the idea of adding a "Thank You! button", instead we wanted to recompense those who commented in threads, so we said 'Let's add a little algorithm/feature to the board.' This feature noticed a) every visit to a thread, and b) every post in a thread. Those who commented increased their reply rate, those who left a thread without a word decreased it. As soon as a member reached... I can't remember that exactly, let's say 75%, the system unlocked a new section of the board for him.

I know that this is too complicated for a community like ours, I just wanted to show you a creative solution. This is how we scared off the leechers. It worked!

 

I felt brave enough to join in this one......I have been active here for a few months now and I mainly contribute to the Pic & Movie Post threads. I was happy to be 'an appreciator' for a while before taking the plunge and starting a thread of my own......
However, I am still hesitant about joining in the GD threads. Even though I don't feel a newbie anymore I still feel as though joining some discussions seems a bit like entering a circle of friends at a party who have all known each other for years and you have come to the party alone looking sheepish and smiling as you sip your drink before venturing a quip or comment which may get a huge laugh or may make the entire room go silient and everybody stare at you......
Like any group......you need to make the effort and put in the time if you're going to be accepted......
