I swear by it. Zycam. But it has a lot of sugar, and you end up taking like four a day so you don't crash. You can also drink airborne every 2-3 hours a day if you need to delay the cold/flu's progression.

There is only one real way to completely deal with the symptoms of a cold. The symptoms are a result of your immune system fighting the cold. If you use steroids to repress the immune system. You will infact feel fine. However, you wont be getting better. Obviously in the long run this is hugely dangerous so it is not a treatment. Best to use paracetamol and lozenges, as well as things like Vicks Vapour rub. If you get a really bad headache, cocodamol (codine + paracetamol) is pretty much the most effective painkiller you can buy in the UK without a perscription, but don't take if your pregnant or asthmatic.

If a good Doctor feels nauseous, he/she would likely have some sweet mary jane to treat themselves Although its unlikely that he/she would even mension it, let alone advise it to a patient, it would be hugely unprofessional. Unless of course you live in California.

 

So this isn't going to help once you have a cold or flu, but this is just kinda a pet peeve. Stop using so much antibacterial soap and hand sanitizers. Let your immune system build up to do what it was designed to do.

The orange juice and alcohol are, of course, okay

 

Salsa as hot as you can stand also helps break up congestion.

But, I've been drinking water and orange juice, eating, and resting-- pretty much not moving much save to hobble around my room to the bathroom.

I really hate having a sore throat and that's what's been bothering me all day.

Getting sick sucks!

If I get sick, it's always at the change of seasons. I usually get sick in early fall, and sometimes at the beginning of summer. I hate it.

I'm in the "wish I felt better but can actually function pretty well" stage of this year's cold. This one hit me a little harder than usual. I was pretty damn miserable for three days, which I spent inside, in my underwear, either sitting at my computer, eating, drinking gallons of juice, or letting myself sleep as much as I could stand.

If you can take time off from life, there's noting like wallowing in self-pity, and playing dead for a while to get through it quickly. Trying to push yourself through a cold only makes it last longer. Laziness is good medicine.

For a rotten cough with a cold, my aunt gave me her special tea, when I stayed at her place one time. Basically, she sent me to bed, and I pretty much stayed there, drinking a few cups of this brew. About two days later, I was fine. I only got to experience this treatment once, unfortunately, when I was eight years old. My mother was seriously pissed when my aunt told her these directions for the treatment:

1. Brew a cup of your choice of tea. Any flavor you like will do. Make it damn strong.

2. Stir in 1 tablespoon each of honey, food-grade glycerin, lemon juice, and Johnny Walker Red. Serve hot.

3. Patient is to drink the tea as fast as they comfortably can considering the heat. When not drinking, the patient is to inhale as much of the steam of the tea as possible.

4. Repeat until patient feels better or doesn't give a flying fuck about how sick they are.

Ah, yes, my dear old aunt. How I miss her.

Now. Does anyone have a sure-fire, legal sleep aid? Something cheap, but safer than, for instance, self-inflicted blows with a rubber mallet to the head.

My father always swore by 5 double Manhattans - of course, he's dead now. I am trying Zicam. I feel a cold trying to start, so I'm willing to try it.

Upset stomach from drainage and meds? The Sicilain side of the family makes bay leaf tea.

Sleep - Advil or Tylenol PM helps, or a benadryl. When I have a cold I will use Nyquil to help me sleep.
