I actually don't think converting people is very high on most atheist's agenda. What they're mostly trying to do is make it safe to "come out" as an atheist, and to provide support to those who do, and who endure lots of disapproval from family members and friends.

I have never known anyone who had the attitude, "If you don't worship my God my way, you're going to hell." I am sure people like that exist, but I have never known any.

I have known several, and I am not including several well known posters on XNXX, who were openly contemptuous of religion, especially Christianity.

Dude, thing is, Newton wasnt suddenly overturned and completely discredited. Because Einstein came around and changed things doesnt means what comes up doesnt come down anymore. Einstein didnt overturn Newton, it SUPPLEMENTED his work, fixed a few things here or there. Doesnt mean science changes so drastically like that. Nothing is going to be discovered tomorrow that will completely overturn Evolution. If something different does come up, it will be analyzed, added into the whole equation, maybe some of the ways we thought Evolution worked will be changed to supplement the new evidence, but it doesnt mean Evolution is an outright lie.

Every time this comes up here, I'm flabbergasted by some people's complete lack of understanding of science. There are people here who seem to think Newton has been completely discredited, cast up on the garbage heap of science. Nothing could be further from the truth -- he is viewed by scientists as one of the truly great men of history. Einstein was quick to say that he stood on the shoulders of Newton. He built on Newtonian physics, which is still taught in every university in the country, and always will be.
