lets get something straight right now...folks who join the military are brave and see themselves as doing something right and decent and good for thier country and with luck the whole world. But they are NOT the ones who make the decisions about who they fight or where or why. As a result, saying that they are "fighting and dying for the sake of others that they may have freedom" is pure unadulterated bullshit! They fight where they are told to fight and the reason is irrelevent. Period. Those important issues are decided by congress and the president for political reasons.Not some altruistic nonsense about God and country and mom and apple pie. In every conflict the U.S. has been involved in since 1953 has been nothing more than an effort to support the profit motives of corperate America and the military industrial complex.Try telling a Viet Nam vet that he was fighting for the freedoms of the South Vietnamese people and if he knows anything at all about the history of the war in SE Asia he will punch you in the throte for being an idiot. Many of the young kids over in Iraq and Afghanistan figured out on thier first tour that it was a bunch of bullshit and some are on thier third, forth and fifth deployments. The only ones who seem to be of the impression that they are actualy fighting for something worth while are the Nascar watching Budwieser swilling brain dead hicks that have been told from birth that America can do no wrong.

With that said...I will climb down off my soap box now and go take my meds...

I had several friends that died that day in the Pentagon. Every one of them was doing their best to keep us safe and free. Providing the freedom that you enjoy on this forum.

While we all have complaints about the government, how many of us do anything about it, like vote.

It is your right not to care. But in my opinion, if you don't care then you need to learn chinese, because when enough people don't care we will become Bejing West.

You all act like if the government stepped in, it would be all sunshine and butterflies. In the USSR, it was even worse. Knowing that if you don't do good in life your older years will suck should motovate people to actually work instead looking for a hand out. Yes it should be discussed, and yes maybe people should start to make jokes about it, if you google 9/11 jokes a shit load will pop up, are they funny not realy but you need to heal and part of that is being able to laugh at what happened, for people to get passed survivors guilt, to openly discuss this, to be honest and say that on a personal level it didn't affect you, unless of course it did, to say morally you are appalled, but you need to get passed it. Grieve if you want to but don't make it a national holiday.

Those figures are a little skewed how much will it cost to transport enough food and water to mars to feed 50 people for a month. then realise you will have a convoy of space crafts carrying it, foodstuffs will be a major concern till the hydroponics can take the strain for veggies and fruit, but eventually you will either have to transport livestock or become vegetarian, then factor in the fuel you will need to power generators, I don't think solar panel will cover all energy requirements at least not at first. Then tell me why we are putting money and time into this project that will possibly have no impact on life on earth, unlike scifi they will not have terra firming equipment.
