Where do you stand on copyright laws?

Do you download music/movies for free?

 

I did, usually stuff I have no other way of getting. I can't anymore so I am just SOL.

 

Downloading music and movie's is legal in the Netherlands... So I download complete albums and DVD's here a lot. It's been more then 10 years ago since i last bought a CD or DVD...

 

I used to pirate, but that old couple we kidnapped off the coast of Somalia really did my fucking head in. She wouldn't stop going on about the price of tea and he kept talking about how his petunias were going to suffer unless he got to talk to his sister on our sat phone. Months and fucking months of those two waffling on about bingo and ironing. She even got Sangul to fetch her a crocheting set and him a bumper book of Telegraph crosswords when he went into Mogadishu.

I tell you what, never again. I'm gonna stick to robbing music, movies and porn off t'internet. If you don't get paid as much as you think you should then tough. I used to earn a fortune pirating too but we all got our breaking points!!!

As much as i dont like them copyright laws are necessary.

 

I am a pirate. I refuse to waste my time on buyin movies n such one when i can get em for free n im pretty good at it too, but my whole reason is i did pirate for a while then i stopped. I bought movies and the one time i buy a movie it sucked balls and i was like fuck buying stupid movies again ill just dl it and if it sucks no loss. now if its good enough ill buy it, but only if its a special collectors or something like that ya know.

I haven't paid for media in 12 years, unless it was collectable or hard to find, like you said.

 

I've studied a little law...and copyright ,as far as "us" goes doesn't go that far...depending on where you come from or if you are actually trying to make money from it. Mostly you will get a warning. But if ya got a few mill,look out...you are fucking worth it!! In fact...I'll sue you for everything you havent even got!!!

 

for piracy you all live in the wrong country in must countries it's illegal. But not here. I'm so glad I can download all music, movies and software without having to worry about being caught. Only uploading them is illegal here, not the downloading So I download so much my 3 one terrabyte HD's are full....

 

I make cgi art and hate people who would steal it so they could use it to make money without even asking my permission or offering me a cut of whatever they hoped to make with it.

If people want free art they should make it themselves. If they can't they should be willing to support those who create what they enjoy.

A US law proposed by Sen. Leahy of Vermont would block US access to any site found to be hosting copyrighted material without authorization. Not just the page with the offending stuff on it, but the whole site. Total censorship. Bam, gone.

Only downloading for personal use is legal here. As soon as you make money out of it, it means high amounts of vines and jail...

 

I have never made a profit off the movies or music I downloaded, it was always just for my own use or for the free projects I do. More times than not, I would eventually find a copy of the movie or album I could buy and get it legitimately but had I not first downloaded it, I would have never been exposed to it and want to own it.

 

I have no problem with those who want to d/l my art pics for personal use like screen savers, desktop backgrounds, or any other personal use. I would like to hear from anyone who thought enough of my work to save a copy for themselves. I post some of my work on free access sites for that very reason. It gets my stuff seen.

That said, there are several sites (I won't dignify them by posting their url here) that routinely steal art from me and other artists, then post it to their own site after cutting out any signature or watermark, claim it as their own property and charge people to view or d/l it.

If every page on their site was blocked that had stolen content, they'd have little left but the splash page (and maybe not even that).

Artists should be compensated for their work. Otherwise they might think you don't like it and quit producing stuff you want to see, read or hear. About 75% of the stuff I make is never posted. Some will never bee seen by anyone but me and people I personally know.

The downside of totally blocking a site, tho, is that there are some sites that may inadvertently post copyrighted material while also posting legitimate and much needed info. Take, for example, WikiLeaks.
They might post a story that should be put before the public, and that corporations or governments would literally kill to keep quiet.
Allowing them to be shut down because they may have posted some copyrighted material would be a catastrophic loss to people seeking to verify rumors and allegations about wrongdoing, while keeping a muzzle on whistle blowers trying to do the right thing in a world increasingly going in the wrong direction.

Page blocking seems the way to go with this.

I help the community out too, if i have copys of dvds or music books yada yada anything digital i put it back out on the net for everyone else
