But what stops me?

yes you should be banned if you messed with someones profile & had you been suspected of the unmentionable threads dirty deed you would have been banned already

 

Who owns the legal rights to the avatars?

 

Who ever copyrighted it, if it was ever copyrighted.

Ownership is reserved for those who legally register the work. Enforcing copyrights is a difficult process, hardly worth the effort in here.

Otherwise, tough shit.

Ok maybe you're right, but is very difficult to control avatars...

 

Mine is owned by a site called Muki's Kitchen. I had some trouble getting it down to size.

 

Difficult to control mine is fucking easy to control, yours on the other hand is just a bag of monkey sick tied in the middle.

 

It's not about whether or not you own your avatar.

For example, I haven't had an avatar or a signature in over a year for a reason. I'm pretty sure I own the right to decide whether or not I want one, and what I want it to be IF I do.

It's about either somebody hacking into an account(which is illegal) or a mod abusing his powers.

Personally I don't think anyone has a right to change what someone else writes or says and that would include an avatar which is from what I heard is supposed to be symbolic of the individual poster.

The same is true for changing someone's screen name when responding to them or changing what someone said and then attributing that as a direct quote to them.

And actually in other settings doing something like that could get you sued.

But not here. As has been pointed out many times we have no rights on this forum or even an expectation of fair play.

So we own nothing, not even our Avatar's.

 

You know I think this is a far more interesting question than I initially thought and of course more confusing. But from what I just read whether or not we own a right to anything on here depends on the internet service provider and whether or not we relinquished our copyright rights to XNXX when we signed up.

Does anyone know the status of that or where we'd even look to find out?

If you have, I don't remember any mention of it in anything that you have posted. Common law dictates that to protect a copyright, you must aggressively police others use of it. Several very well know trade marks were stripped of copy right protection because the owner was not policing it.

However, the mere thought that you "own" something that you place on a open public forum is ridiculous.

 

I,ve always gone on the assumption that once you come online...All privacy goes out the window.....Although it would be interesting to see how many members would get angry if you edited one of their stories without their permission.
