Since when is spelling an indicator of intelligence? So are you saying that since a Russian scientist can not read and spell in English (therefore would make a world of spelling errors) he is less intelligent than stumbler? For the most part they already are. However, it is more important for blacks to patrol lower income black neighborhoods, because residents of these neighborhoods frequently do not trust the police.

Oh and paramount discrimination. I bet there are thousands of white police officers who are just dying to patrol poor black inner city neighborhoods. the points were not literally the measurement. No one in sane mind will quantify the help black need. It was a quick sarcastic response to follow the thread. It's like saying: I love you tons. You are trying to quantify something you can not. That's as plain as I can make it.

Both links show the large difference of black having government jobs vs whites per % of the population. That is not because of merit.

The city in which I live is half black. There are very few black police officers. This makes it difficult for the police to apprehend criminals who prey on poor black people, to say nothing of black criminals who prey on whites. Discrimination is rational when it is on the basis of what makes one more effective in a position.

 

I don't believe that and here's why. You made the statement. Got challenged on it (that would have been the logical place to say it was a joke or not a serious statement) and then posted links you claim backed up your statement.

No its because government jobs don't pay shit compared to private sector jobs with the same amount of education and experience. And because of our history of discrimination and prejudice against blacks most the really good private sector jobs go to whites and about the only jobs left are in the public sector. That's where the discrepancy comes in. Not some mythical bullshit its because blacks receive preferential from our government.

 

If blacks are given extra points on civil service exams, that is a quantifiable number that should be documented.

If your links show that blacks occupy professional positions with the government in numbers that are out of proportion to their numbers in the population, and if they have lower average scores than whites, you should have copied and pasted those assertions, following by your links.

I am not necessarily disputing you. My point is that in a topic as emotionally laden as race one should post factual assertions with care.

Also, by peppering your arguments with sarcasm and insults you reduce your credibility, and make it easier for those who want to disagree with your conclusions to dismiss you. If I am trying to find out where truth lies on a complex and emotional topic, any appeal to emotion turns me against the person making the appeal.

A number of years ago I read an article in The New York Times that said that liberals and conservatives are equally prone to avoid exposure to points of view they do not share. I have enjoyed political arguments since I was seven or eight years old. A long time ago I realized that if my exposure to a viewpoint was restricted to rebuttals of that viewpoint, I would be at a disadvantage when arguing with someone who really thought that way.

It is dispiriting to realize how little facts and logic mean to many people. Rush Limbaugh has built a career telling millions of Americans lies they want to believe. If I quote The New York Times, The Washington Post, or the Brookings Institute as a source many on the right reject my quote out of hand. That is why I prefer to use The Wall Street Journal and Forbes.
