  2. Hello,

You can now get verified on forum.

The way it's gonna work is that you can send me a PM with a verification picture. The picture has to contain you and forum name on piece of paper or on your body and your username or my username instead of the website name, if you prefer that.

I need to be able to recognize you in that picture. You need to have some pictures of your self in your gallery so I can compare that picture.

Please note that verification is completely optional and it won't give you any extra features or access. You will have a check mark (as I have now, if you want to look) and verification will only mean that you are who you say you are.

You may not use a fake pictures for verification. If you try to verify your account with a fake picture or someone else picture, or just spam me with fake pictures, you will get Banned!

The pictures that you will send me for verification won't be public

    Best regards,

DL and Kimiko are going about how guns are bad, etc, and the 2nd should be repealed because of the shooting in Arizona. Or, basically, trotting out their usual lines any time a shooting makes national headlines.

    Bullshit

Kimiko (I will never speak for Distant Lover) feels people getting killed and shot through the head because of their political beliefs is a bad deal. Guns are just the all too handy means.

I am fortunate enough to have never held a gun.
I don't think in my country I am in the minority in this experience.
It is a sad world that needs guns, but even sadder that they provide bravado even when they are not needed.
Those that show off there guns seem a little deranged to me.

I'd say that Kimiko's belief in repealing the 2nd is at least as political as DL's, even if she is much more calm and reasonable about it.

Only a Commie pussy would choose an AK-47 over an AR-15 or an HK.
Real Americans don't need Commie guns.

Guns have their uses. With handguns that use is mostly to shoot and kill other humans. Sorry, but there it is.
In spite of that I own one, keep it for home defense (The only thing the cops will be able to do in the event of a home invasion is draw a nice set of chalk lines around the body. Sorry, but another truth.) because I'd rather do the shooting that be the one getting shot at.

But basing laws, especially ones which may conflict with Constitutional guarantees, on the hysteria of the moment is the worst sort of legislating possible. Nothing good can come of it, any more than failing to control the campaign vitriol or the pandering to fringe groups.

Cover the edges while ignoring the middle? That's a campaign plank just waiting to drop you into the deep and nasty. And going there is just stupid.

There is nothing wrong with a handgun in the possession of a law abiding citizen, it is only when criminals and the mentally ill or plain stupid get their hands on them that you have problems, alas your laws allow that, and there is not going to be any change to that law, so I guess you have to live with it and the consequences.

More guns just means more dead people, and they aren't all going to be "bad guys".

The majority of gun related deaths in the US are suicides, with 50% of all successful suicides being by firearm. I've lost 2 friends and 1 student (a 6th grader) to suicide by handgun. Undoubtedly some suicide victims would just choose a different method to kill themselves if a gun wasn't available but guns are FAST and EFFICIENT. Other methods of suicide take time. The minutes between the time that a person decides to kill themselves and the time they act are minutes where they can change their mind.

The majority of guns used by criminals were not purchased legally. Stolen guns are purchased on the street. The more law abiding citizens own guns, the more guns there are to steal. In fact, guns are the first thing that burglars look for.

The number of suicides, homicides and accidental shootings far outweighs the number of criminals killed in self defense, so how are we safer if we have more guns?

The federal gun control act of 1934 made possession or transfer of automatic weapons, silencers, shotguns with a barrel length of less than 18 inches and rifles with a barrel length of less than 16 inches illegal unless the weapon and the owner were both properly registered with the BATF and all the appropriate taxes are paid.

Of all of the automatic weapons (defined as either fully automatic or selective fire weapons) currently inside the borders of the United States, less than half are in the possession of the U.S. military, federal law enforcement or state or county or local law enforcement. The rest are in the hands of legally registered civilians like you and me. The registration process requires about six months and a couple hundred bucks and involves the FBI and local county and state law enforcement doing extensive background checks. Once all the hoops are jumped through you can leagaly own a machine gun.

The number of crimes commited with these legally registered automatic weapons since 1934 number less than a dozen.

As for civilian legal semi automatic military assault weapon look alikes...very few have ever been used in a serious crime but substantialy more than of the federaly registered "class three" weapons. Not many criminals choose a large, bulky, expensive and rather complicated weapon system as thier weapon of choice. Handguns are and will always be king of the hill when it comes to being chosen by criminals for being light weight and easily concealed and generaly easy to opperate.

Frankly, a hunting rifle possesses far more power per round than any of the so called "assault weapons," and produces a much more devestating wound. As does a common hunting shotgun although at much shorter ranges.

    Okay...thats all for now...

Every house in Switzerland has at least one, if not more, guns, because every Swiss citizen is required to serve in the country's militia and maintain their own firearm for such purpose. They are also required to go to a yearly shoot trial.

The government even pays for the bullets.

For statistics in 2006, there were a total of 38 killings with a fire arm, compared to 64 fatal stabbings; over all, there were 89 assaults with a firearm and 526 with a bladed weapon.

    Why?

Because nations like Switzerland and Israel recognize that the true definition of "gun control" is synonymous with "proper aim and handling" and focus their efforts on training their citizens on how to handle guns responsibly and carefully, rather than to rely on Prohibition style regulations that fail year after year to do anything about the problem. Prohibition didn't stop the flow of alcohol, the War on Drugs hasn't stopped anyone from getting high, and the gun control laws we have now haven't stopped criminals from getting their hands on high power assault weapons that are already illegal to sell in this country.

It turns out there was another gun present at the shooting on Saturday; one of the men responsible for subduing the shooter had his gun on him and ran towards the shooting to see what he could to help. The reason he didn't use his gun is the shooter had already been tackled by the time he got there, and he didn't want to confuse the issue. And that is the kind of behavior those of us who argue in favor of the 2nd amendment expect and promote; armed citizens who are willing to stand up for themselves responsibly.

Another reason they do not use the guns issued for militia service is the penalty for using them is higher than using an illegal fire arm.
