Interesting. I see they can still own guns in Australia but they have some pretty common sense laws it appears to me.

Tell me how many Kindergartners and First Graders do they have showing up at their Australian elementary schools with pistols falling out of their pockets or accidentally shooting other students? Because that's starting to be almost a weekly occurrence in the US.

 

According to recent reports one of the reason 250,000 people are killed in Mexico is because of the abundance of guns in the US being sold to Mexicans and smuggled into their country to kill each other with.

And the Mexicans are getting more than a just a little tired of that and would like to see the US pass laws that would stop the illegal flow of arms into Mexico.

Australians are now 20 years ahead not 10 years behind as we used to be 30 years ago and I pointed out last time I was here you Americans are very good teachers of what not to do.Governments have changed although we don't like the the policies gun laws remain for a reason,Because put one in my hand on a bad day I'd fucken shoot and that's why gun laws are in control.And It annoys me that you sit back and say well it's my right to bear arms meanwhile your kid's,mother,daughter,son,father etc are getting shot because I owed you 20 fucking dollars.

I know alot about guns far as specs, makes, range, how to shoot stuff like that. Far as owning and buying guns Im well not as informed and have a few questions considering I am turning 21 this summer and want to buy a few guns. I live in Pennsylvania which I don't know a lot about with their laws, I'm from New York City and know about those.


Basic questions

1) What is the law and rules with owning Assault, machine guns, sub-machine guns?


2) How would I go about buying gun licenses and permits? Are their classes or training course involved?


3) If I was to buy guns from like dealer or person at A gun show (since there are alot in my area.) Would it be safe and legal to own if I have a basic licence to own guns?

 

Why do you want a gun ?

 

First you need to check both the Pennsylvania State laws and municipal or city laws where you live. Some towns and cities have their own requirements above and beyond state laws.

You also have to understand the difference between "assault rifles" which are basically legal, and "machine guns." And the difference is whether or not they are semi automatic (requiring a trigger pull for each shot) or fully automatic which shoots bursts of shots with one trigger pull). All fully automatic weapons; i.e. Machine guns require special federal licensing and permitting. Semi Automatic guns on the other hand, whether they are assault rifles or not, are basically legal.

As to buying guns from private parties or at gun shows you also need to check and know the state laws on that. But in most states its much easier to buy guns at gun shows which often escape the requirements of gun dealers.

Finally, I don't know what the laws are on gun safety courses, training and certification but if I was you I'd take everything offered whether it was required or not.

We've got a really serious problem in this nation with just stupid gun carelessness and I think we gun owners have to accept the responsibility of owning guns instead of just exercising our rights to own them.

PS A quick google search of Pennsylvania gun laws will get you all the information you need and probably even the forms you need if there are any.

To me in my own opinion of a 20 year old avid gun lover and grandfather A retired cop. Its nice to own A few guns weather your collecting them or personal protection. But when people start abusing and using guns for things that aren't hunting, shooting at ranges, gun shows, shooting competitions, protection from people breaking in or attempts at your life if it was indeed proven self defense. I say the laws and rules should get that persons gun taking away and some jail time if they in fact break any law/rules or kill someone on purpose; cause those are the people that don't care about others safety/well being or others life in general and would threaten you with a gun to your face god forbid you did something wrong or owed them some sort of debt and even rob you or shoot you if the thought came across their minds.

I watch T.V and shows about gangs, mobs, gun control and those shows and as I sit there and watch I usually think to myself what purpose would you need to carry a gun with you into a club or crowded area, like how big of a superstar or paranoid person you are that you need to carry them in public other then being law enforcement. Or how much of pussy are that you need to start pointing guns at people to get respect or some BS just to make you feel like a man and/or the most feared person on your block just because you need to use a gun.

now I maybe young but I do know when people don't give a fuck about life and/or people and they just want to do things their way and want power and respect, and they have guns bad things happen to everyone in one way or another.

 

Tucson Shooting Victims To Protest At NRA Convention

One of the biggest problem for responsible gun owners right now is the amount of ammunition careless and criminal gun owners are giving to the pro-gun control factions in this country.

And of course one of the biggest was the recent shootings in Tucson Arizona which was a national tragedy with many individual acts of heroism on the part of victims and survivors. Those are the kind of people that will be both sympathized with and listened to.

That of course is why many of those same survivors will be protesting at the NRA convention being held in Pittsburgh. I'm pretty sure this is going to be a public relations nightmare for the NRA.

PS I think its important to note that so far at least the changes in US gun laws they are proposing seem to have a common sense element and are not really very radical at all.


And the problem I predict with that is that the NRA and gun owners will stick to their same old "they're gonna take our guns away" hysteria thus reinforcing the stereotype of "gun nuts."

I think this is one of the saner posts I've read on this thread. Because I believe we have a real problem with the way guns are seen, used, and cared for.

And I think that's because while it used to be more common for people like me to be raised around real guns and people who knew how to be responsible for them, not we've got a generation or maybe two generations raised on using guns for video games.

I firmly believe that blurs the lines of reality concerning guns and we've got more and more people who see them as toys.

Couple that with people who own guns for really bad psychological reasons; i.e. it makes them feel powerful, and yes I think its a formula for disaster.

I think we're actually getting to be even worse than you describe here in the US. We've got kids bringing guns to school. We've guns being dropped in public meetings. And we've even got accidental shootings at gun shows.

That's a much higher level of gun carelessness than I thought I'd ever see. And is all the evidence I need to prove we've got more guns in this country than sense.
