Which leads me to question exactly why you are nit-picking at this thread at all. I created this post to refute the misperceptions and ignorance a portion of americans,as displayed on this forum, have about Canada and it's contributions.
You have derailed it by being pedantic, obtuse, and in general neither confirming nor refuting the original OP.

No it doesn't count as slander, at least no more than the bulk of what I have seen posted about Canada in these forums.

BTW, if you had used better judgment in posting your claims of Canadian contributions to the world, you would not have received the negative responses.

 

The basketball entry is incorrect, basketball was first invented by a Canadian physical education instructor named James Naismith, I believe.

I'm Canadian by birth but my family is originally American, most of them being in California. I'm definitely proud of what this country has contributed to the world.

 

Naismith was born in Canada, but he moved to the US before he came up with the game at a YMCA in Massachusetts.

 

So the one item in debate, the television, thus negates the OP?

No, the list that you posted was filled with very dubious accomplishments. i.e.: instant mashed potatoes.

And incorrect credits:
Example, phonograph/gramophone.
Thomas A. Edison, invented the phonograph.
Emile Berliner, invented the gramophone, a German immigrant while living in the US.

I'm not sure how much of this list is 100% accurate and I'm not interested in getting into a Homer Simpson vs Thomas Edison style invention war, but Canadians have undoubtably contributed many new inventions and innovations to the world.

 

Just for perspective purposes. The US is the repository of many foreign inventions but patented in the US.

I LOVE CANADA! I miss living in MI, it was so easy to just hop on over and visit (though my favorite place, Quebec, was still 15 hrs away)!
