Recently I have realized that I am overly niave when it comes to posters here on XNXX, so I thought I'd pose the following questions:

1) Besides being able to post all the really raunchy shit they don't want associated with their main username, why do people have socks?

2) Without slinging mud, which profiles do you think are socks?

3) Give your opinion on the main user behind each sock.

 

Good question.

I haven't got a clue though. I used to take everyone on here at face value, but there's been so many socks in recent times (I'm thinking of all the outbreak of Doctors and Nurses a while back) that now I assume that any newbie is a sock until proven otherwise - especially if they appear and start off by saying something controversial.

I suppose they do provide a lot of entertainment on here...

 

I am who I am. I know there are people who write under more than one name.

 

A long time ago I created a sock, but I could not remember the password and nophest would not tell me what it was, good decision on his part. However, I do think that people create socks for a variety of reasons, not the least being able to continue and argument without drawing unwanted attention to themselves.

Unwanted, seems to be the only kind of attention that they do not want.

 

Nothing malicious for me, although I have socked for arguments a couple years ago, quite often I just want to cruise around the site without getting caught up in a lot of interaction as I do with my primary name. Nothing personal, just some "me" time :lol:

This sock was created around the same time as my main SN.

Some socks are used to gang up on others. When they start talking to each other it can be confusing.I agree with points made by those here about some wishing to distance themselves from their `respectable' persona when posting in certain threads, or discussions.
When things get heated people can slip up, and reveal something about themselves that they might have rather kept secret, though this detective method is not infallible, as many of us have found out.

Socks - A cowards way of attacking you, or disagreeing with you. If I disagree with something you post I will let you know, I won't send a sock with the bad news.

Socks - A way for banned members to return and hassle the people they don't like, as we have seen recently with the carrie j et al gang running around throwing insults around, and all because she/he got caught in a massive lie.

Socks - To keep your feet warm.

 

Might also be an additional layer of secrecy and anonymity? I mean, I've seen the post counts on some of you members, and it's possible that after the first five thousand you start to feel like your main account is, in a sense, as much a unique and singular representation of your identity as your own face and voice would be in a crowded room. You feel a little more attached to that account, to that identity, so when you want to say or do something that skirts the bounds of decency, or might stir up a lot of antagonism, you create a new account to recapture that 'Faceless Courage' and go ahead with whatever you wanted to say.

Hi Richie! I like some of the socks. Ancient Red's most notably. However I posted this thread cuz I think I've got a sock problem but don't wanna accuse anyone til I'm more sure of how the 'secret socks' work.

 

It's simple.

Members have socks because a) they are cowards and don't want to be identified when they talk stupid trash, b) they are super-egotists who create socks who then spend all of their time praising how clever the original member is OR c) they are simple troublemakers who have no other purpose than stirring up shit.

There ARE no good reasons for socks.

This makes NO sense at all, because you can 'cruise' the site WITHOUT commenting at any time, and even do it 'anonymously' by hiding your green 'presence' light.

So, again: NO GOOD REASON FOR SOCKS.
