Lemark sent a "guideline", through ejls, of 16 as the age to write above. A "guideline" is not a rule and stories with characters under 16 are still being posted. Lemark won't set a rule because he doesn't want to lose contributors or readers... he has lost a lot of BOTH.

 

What is really sad and what the opponents of the stories don't seem to understand is that the writings posted here are reflections of society, Does that mean our society is sick. Eh probably, But in most cases the random writings are not intended to harm anyone, they are meant to amuse titillate, offend, disgust, who can really say except the writer. Are the writers evil for say writing a Rape story? personally I think that anyone who has committed any kind of sexual assault should be staked out and left to the crows. Yet in my catalog is a rape story... By saying that writing about anything is wrong or evil is the equivalent of saying that, Guns are evil or knives are evil... If you take away people's ability to explore stupid, they will inevitably explore stupid through another means.

Very true, there's a huge difference between writing about something in a story and advocating it. I bet we are nearly all very close on the core morals of actual behaviour.

On top of that are issues of consent, harm, other types of immoral behaviour and all the rest.

I slightly suspect that under all the polarisation the admins have taken on board that the issue isn't best dealt with by a blanket age limit of 16 after all, and have quietly dropped it.

The latest issue of Scientific American has a surprising report asserting that pornography could actually lower the rates of sexual violence.
Digg spotted the report which, among other noteworthy assertions, finds that:

... some experts believe the consumption of pornography may actually reduce the desire to rape by offering a safe, private outlet for deviant sexual desires.​

The report cites several pieces of evidence to support its claim, including assertions from Christopher J. Ferguson, a professor of psychology and criminal justice at Texas A&M International University.



Though pornography is perhaps more available now than ever, Ferguson contends that, “rates of rapes and sexual assault in the U.S. are at their lowest levels since the 1960s."


The report backs up a Reason Magazine article published in 2007. Reason pointed out that, in 2006, Clemson University economist Todd Kendall presented findings suggesting that states where Internet access expanded the fastest saw rape decline the most.

I write about incest, and pedophilia, but I am in no way advocating either of those things.
However those are plot elements, they're not what the stories are "about" at all.
For instance, I wrote this story called Popping Ashley's little cherry about a man who starts molesting his young daughter.
He knows it's wrong, and tries to stop, but he can't, and that's a less than subtle reference to addiction, but as the story goes on, and he has an emotional break down over it in part four we find out that he comes from a family with a long tradition of incest, and that he had thought he'd be the one to break the cycle, but has failed miserably.
So for me it's about not living up to our own best expectations, about how despite our best efforts there are ways in which we can't help turning out like our parents, and just a whole range of issues.
Of course as a masturbation story it's about daddy/daughter role play, and age play.
I've had more women approach me wanting to cyber because of that story than any other one that I've written.
These are grown women not little girls, and I'm pretty sure that most of them don't really want to have sex with their father's but they find the idea of it to be highly erotic, and that's who I cater to.

That's what can be frustrating about trying to debate this topic because there are some people that see it in very black, and white terms.
"If you read, or write stories in which under age characters have sex with adults then you are a pedophile. No two ways about it" And they seem incapable of acknowledging that there may be other issues at play.
When I try to bring those issues up they either ignore it, or dismiss it.

 

Lets ban everything

Lets ban all sex stories that will make the world a better place. We can ban bestiality stories because they might offend the SPCA. Cuckold stories because they are boring. Swinger stories because they are about adultery. Rape stories because they are insensitive to victims. Interracial stories because they offend right wing nut jobs and on and on. We can find a reason to ban them all but how would that make the world safe. If you get rid of every story where someone has sex with a child will that stop child rape. Guess not because you did it and yet children are still raped because stories do not make people do anything. Assholes are assholes and if they are going to rape a child not reading a story will not stop them.

One last thought the real reason you want to ban pedophile stories is so that you will not read them. People that are offended by stories or ideas are offended because they are what they fear. Just like raving homophobes are often gay themselves.

 

The argument is always going to be fuzzy about what is acceptable. as has already been discussed a few times the law would see an 18 year old guy having consensual sex with a 17 year old girl as the same act as a 60 year old guy having sex with a 10 year old, although in some cases circumstances are sensibly taken into account.

Personally, if I feel uncomfortable with a story I stop reading it and look elsewhere.

Where a person draws the line for themselves is purely subjective. I personally don't enjoy stories about young children or incest (I have a daughter of my own and would happily give my life to protect her from abuse) so those stories just make me cringe, but it's my choice whether to continue reading or stop, as it is for everyone else.

That said, at various times i've had boners develop themselves for Amanda Bynes, Selena Gomez and Britney before they were 'of age'. What does that say about me? I think it says I know where the line is for me.

I don't think it does. As long as those stories aren't passed off as 'true' and designed to encourage others to enact them.
I would hope that people are sensible enough to know the distinction between fantasy and reality, but relying on the judgement of others is often folly.

 

I was listening to the radio the other day... and the subject of pregnant teens came up... they knew nothing I googled it and came up with the youngest mother was a 6 year old Peruvian girl... the youngest father a five year old boy in Great Britain who impregnated his twelve year old sister. i think its a vioation of the 1st amendment - free speech. its also a violation of creating writing, creative thinking, and creative imagination. nobody forces you to read the stories so if you dont like them read something else. but free speech should not be infringed upon.

the ban on pedophelia is no different than when the govt wanted to ban pornography from magazines. or when the moral majority wanted to ban pornography from the internet. fortunately, all content with the exception of pediophelia is protected from censorship by the first amendment. i dont approve of anything morally wrong but i think that if people want to write stories about anything that excites them, there shouldnt be anything wrong with that. its no different than comic strips, its no different than role-playing, its no different than fiction. think about it. if we want everybody to write the same stories about the same people having sex, who would bother to read anything on here?
