It looks like you can say anything you want at any point here in the United States. I am deeply sickened by the fact that the ruling was in favor of these crazy people by 8-1! I know we will each have our own opinion on this but I am so disgusted that these people have no feelings for fallen military and their families. I truly hope Karma gets them good.

Interesting that those bastards can interfere with other's right to worship, to make their own sick political points and yet they hide behind that same claim for protection, from those who only want to mourn their fallen.

I suspect, when they wrote the First Amendment this was not what they had in mind. John Hancock, John and Sam Adams, Washington, Thomas Jefferson et al would have put a flint lock in those pricks faces and pulled the trigger, or at the very least issued a severe beat down, followed by a taring and feathering.

The ruling is probably correct, no matter how repugnant we find the actions of Phelps & Co. They are truly hateful people, and I do hope they get their just desserts, one way or another...but I'm not surprised that the courts are no help.

If we make it illegal for one sort of protest then who decides just what is legal and what is not legal.

The christian thing well I think Gandhi said it right "I do not dislike your Jesus but I hate your christians, they are so unlike your Jesus." That says it all about christians. It seems most christians I have run into lately are of that ilk. That is not to say the same can be said for the other religions of the world as well. It's easy to group a few bad apples into the rest of the bunch and call them all crazy. For the most part Christians, Muslims, Jews, and whatever else are good descent people. But people who aren't religious looking from the outside only see the bad ones and think that all of them are like that. Like the saying don't judge a book by it's cover, in this case don't judge someone by his neighbor.

 

When you live your life ruled by the constitution and its amendments then this is what happens, people will have the right to peaceful assembly and use signs to abuse others and cite free speech.

I, for one, am glad that the Constitution guarantees us freedom of speech, even when we don't like what people say. When we start making exceptions for every Klan, Nazi or Fred Phelps demonstration, we are lost.

 

Any ideal should be evaluated in terms of its benefits. I am in favor of unlimited political debate, although not unlimited financial contributions. Democracy is most effective when the electorate is exposed to many different points of view. Also, I trust the free market for facts and opinions.

However, if members of the Wesboro Baptist Church wish to argue that gay rights laws in the United States have earned the hostility of God, there are more appropriate venues for such a debate than the funeral of an American service person.

I think there has been some good response

If I am not wrong they showed up somewhere and were surrounded by people with signs so they could not be seen by the grieving family. Thats how they should be treated.

 

Personally, I think people should just take some shovels and beat the living crap out of them. They might go to jail for awhile, but it might just be worth it. And it might make them think twice before they do this sort of thing again.

That is really not the way to go. Let them show up and give the good people a chance to do something good.
Having them show up and then be surrounded by people supporting the grieving ones is much more powerful than anything the mean hateful people can ever do and the message gets more coverage.
