Yes, absolutely. There is no right to grieve in peace. There is no right to NOT be offended. But there is a constitutional right to free speech in the US at least. And that's all the supreme court deals with; what the constitution says.

And not being from here I could see where you might think our Supreme Court fears public opinion but that is pretty far from the truth. Whether the court leans liberal or conservative they have made some of the most unpopular decisions in our history and absolutely defied public sentiment.

Just like they did in this case. I think most people in the US want to stop the Westboro Baptist Church but the court has said essentially no.

Well so far they've just BEEN sued. And Ace I'm not sure they can even get their legal fees back in some kind of counter suit but I could be wrong about that.

But the suit against them was definitely not frivolous. It went to court and Westboro lost a $5 Million judgment. So I think each party will be responsible for their own legal expenses. Which I bet run close to $1 million each.

I can see two ways to shut them up though. One is the angel thing they've come up with. People get a counter demonstration permit and have these huge angel wings. They turn their backs on the Phelps, spread their wings, and it screens them off. They have already been restrained to a distance where they can't be heard by people at the Funeral.

And the other thing is the national media needs to stop giving these freaks the attention they crave. All we have to do is ignore them and they eventually WILL go away.

 

It's good to see the moral outrage here. I too think these assholes need to be on the wrong end of a .357 magnum, mine in particular. What's particularly distressing is that if I drew my weapon on them, the police would have to subdue me and defend them. For all our faults, I do like the United States. We get shit on by other countries, even ones that we support with our generosity, we suffer unfair trade practices, we certainly have our share of problems, but each day we get up, brush our teeth, comb our hair, and go out and do our thing.
