But I hear the waves are still headed for the west coast from Alaska to California.

Are any of you Canadian members near the west coast? I'd sure like to know how big the waves actually are.

PS CNN just ran some video of the Tsunamis hitting Japan. Its just devastating.

Brandi lives in Kamloops(but I think that is far enough inland), I am much further north, just over the BC border. I haven't seen any warnings for us, yet.


The north and central B.C. coast, along with the west coast of Vancouver Island from Cape Scott to Port Renfrew, were on tsunami advisories early Friday

We have "warning" and "advisory" the latter being less of a threat.

I used to have relatives on Vancouver Island.

But I was especially interested in what you folks in Canada are hearing because it can't hit Alaska and California without hitting you.

And they've got to be getting close by now.

By the way I have a brother in law that was in Seattle years ago when there was an earthquake in Alaska and there was supposed to be a small Tsunami hitting the coast so being from Wyoming he and a friend went out to watch it.

When it hit the wave was only six inches high but then so was the wetness around their ankles. First they thought they were a safe distance and then the wave covered that distance faster than they could move.

That has always really impressed me.

The United States appears to be out of major danger from the tsunami, White House Chief of Staff Bill Daley has said. "The tsunami wave has gone through Hawaii and there does not seem to be any enormous impact, which is extremely encouraging," he told a meeting of the President's Export Council in Washington. There was still some risk to the US West Coast, "but I think the enormous fears that that were there hours ago, for some of us hours ago, has diminished greatly, which is quite a relief for all of us", Mr Daley added.

CNN news is showing footage of ships pushed inland, thousands of vehicles and vessels floundering at bridges and on
highways.

It is unbelievable destruction, this what it must have looked like on the Mississippi coast during Katrina.

I left a message with my friend, I know he works in Tokyo, but knowing him he's probably in the Alps (once again) skiing.

 

I've been in touch with some of my relatives via Twitter this morning. Thankfully, they mostly live in the south of Japan, and they're all present or accounted for. They all felt it, that's for sure...and some of them don't have power. The damage is horrendous, but where they are, it's mostly cans flying off shelves, that sort of thing.

This thing is really going to be awful as the extent of the devastation and loss of life becomes known.
