To say that the Japanese are just as bad as everyone else because of the behavior of the Japanese Army during World War II is like saying that Christianity is just as bad as Islam because of the antics of the Westboro Baptist Church. Japanese have a very low crime rate everywhere in the world that they live. I do not know what the Japanese crime rate was like before the Second World War, but I suspect it was low then too.

Nevertheless, all races are capable of terrible atrocities under the wrong circumstances, and there's no use trying to pretend otherwise.

No I do not think so. What I do believe is that the different collective characteristics of various racial groups are due to different population pressures lasting for hundreds and thousands of years. As a rule, the longer a population group has practiced agriculture and urban living the lower its crime rate is and the higher it's average intelligence.

Nevertheless, the cruelty of the Japanese Army during the Second World War needs more of an explanation than it is usually given, considering the humanity of the Japanese Army in previous wars, and the civility of Japanese civilians.

During the Second World War Japan did not have an ideology similar to Nazism that would have inspired cruelty. Buddhists have rarely practiced religious persecution. From my reading of Buddhist texts, and commentaries of Buddhism I see that religion as one that at least implies the virtue of pacifism and even vegetarianism.

The Kojiki and the Nihongi are the sacred texts of Shinto. From my reading of both I see Shinto as polytheistic nature worship, and more of an inspiration to environmentalism than militarism.

Coming from a city that has just suffered its own devastating earthquake and still suffering from its aftermath...I can say, judging by the media, we only had looters for 3 days (white). They were the scum of the earth and we should makes examples of them etc etc.....No doubt Japan has its looters, just the media isnt interested in that side of the story.....yet

The entire salvage operation has been disciplined, and I'll bet people know they are giving their lives to get those reactors turned down ASAP. They will die from radiation exposure, but they are that well trained to give for the good of others.
