The way it's gonna work is that you can send me a PM with a verification picture. The picture has to contain you and forum name on piece of paper or on your body and your username or my username instead of the website name, if you prefer that.

I need to be able to recognize you in that picture. You need to have some pictures of your self in your gallery so I can compare that picture.

Please note that verification is completely optional and it won't give you any extra features or access. You will have a check mark (as I have now, if you want to look) and verification will only mean that you are who you say you are.

You may not use a fake pictures for verification. If you try to verify your account with a fake picture or someone else picture, or just spam me with fake pictures, you will get Banned!

the UK is in the process of starting to build new nuclear power stations to replace our existing ones and some of the older coal fired power stations.

the fact that these older stations must be replaced cannot realistically be disputed.

if they were replaced with plants with low or even better now carbon out put would help with climate change whatever the cause of that change.

given that even taking into account all practical possible energy efficiency programs we must build new power stations, what do you think we should build

    REMEMBER

we have no practical way of storing large quantity's of electricity

solar power even at 100% efficiency will never work in the UK the watts per meter square out put of the sun is to low for our land area

wind power only works when the wind speed is above 5mph and below 35mph so this is unreliable as a power source

the only practical choice is next generation Nuclear or Coal stations ans lots of them

    what do you think

are you willing to live with blackouts or will you give up all your electrical luxuries

so is the whole of the rest of the Western world including the USA we all need to build new power stations and the only viable options are coal and nuclear power plants

I heard we USA had 23 permits for New Nuclear Plants but I think they should all be changed to Nat Gas.....

The numbers have proven we could go Solar and wind for most all of our power but we are run by big coal and oil companies.

Sorry man...you painted a bleak picture for the UK.

I have never been big on Nuclear as when growing up they built one about 150 miles from where I lived. Back then they had no idea what to do with the dangerous spent fuel and 40 years later they still dont.

Nuclear is the way forward for the next generation of power generators. Coal and oil is running out, wind, wave and solar are not viable yet. We can put solar panels on our roofs to reduce the amount we use from the national grid but not to rely on. Like it or hate it nuclear is the cleanest and safest offer.

Loss of life apart, can you not see the almost sublime irony in this situation, of wave power washing away/pissing all over nuclear power?

wrong there the USA is screwed just like us

we cannot store commercial quantities of energy there for wind, solar and tidal power can never work to supply a nation power requirements.

the only alternatives for the next 50 years are nuclear or coal power

natural gas prices go sky high if you use it to generate vast quantities of electricity

coal is running out but we have over 100y of reserves if we chose to use it

    a lot better than oil

The biggest earthquake ever recorded in the UK was about Richter scale 4.5.

    2002 4.7 centred on Dudley.

    Dudley earthquake appeal

At 00:54 on Monday 23 September an earthquake measuring 4.8 on the Richter scale hit Dudley,UK causing untold disruption and distress -

    • Many were woken well before their giro arrived
    • Several priceless collections of mementos from the Balearics and Spanish costas were damaged
    • Three areas of historic and scientifically significant litter were disturbed
    • Thousands are confused and bewildered, trying to come to terms with the fact that something interesting has happened in Dudley
One resident, Donna-Marie Dutton, a 17 year old mother-of-three said "It was such a shock, little Chantal-Leanne came running into my bedroom crying. My youngest two, Tyler-Morgan and Megan-Storm slept through it. I was still shaking when I was watching Trisha the next morning."

Apparently though, looting did carry on as normal.

The British Red Cross have so far managed to ship 4000 crates of Sunny Delight to the area to help the stricken masses.
Rescue workers are still searching through the rubble and have found large quantities of personal belongings including benefit books and jewellery from Elizabeth Duke at Argos.
    HOW YOU CAN HELP

    • £2 buys chips, scraps and blue pop for a family of four
    • £10 can take a family to Stourport for the day, where children can play on an unspoiled canal bank among the national collection of stinging nettles
    • 22p buys a biro for filling in a spurious compensation claim
    PLEASE ACT NOW
Simply email us by return with your credit card details and we'll do the rest!
If you prefer to donate cash, there are collection points available at your local branches of Argos, Iceland and Clinton Cards

we have hydro electric in the usa, they could build more dams. if you back up water behind the dam you are in a sense storing power.

We do not have the landscape for it, we have no rivers like the Colarado and nothing like the Hoover damn could be built here, when our rivers get big they are out on the flatlands with no significant hills.

that sucks, we have plenty of places for hydro electric dams, for some reason they keep going for nuclear. to me hydro electric, in terms of saftey, is the way to go

Yep but you have to consider the tree huggers when the damns go up and flood the valleys a rare buttercup will lose its habitat. Over here you can see the flooded villages in some of the reservoirs when they built the damns back in the early 20th century.

thats true you are storing the potential power of the water but even the USA cannot supply all its power this way.

and if a quake breaches the dam then you have a man made tsunami

the USA still has to chose nuclear or coal power for its new power stations

Hydro-electric just can't produce enough power.

Luckily for us Brits, we ARE in a good spot for wind turbines, and we've built rather a lot of them, but that too cannot be a full replacement. The only two things that can are nuclear (for a few thousand years) or solar (for a few billion). Otherwise we cut down hugely on the amount of energy we use up.

solar power is impossible in the UK you have to have enough land to live grow food and at your average daily sun shine have enough solar panels for twice your average consumption of electricity

and then you have to store the electricity for when it is dark

at this moment in time all renewable energy sources do is push up the cost of electricity as every wind turbine must be backed hp by a power station
