rainbow boas are lovely if handled well when young- i worked with 3 moody rainbows, no fun!

i actually prefered the corn snakes personality wise

 

Brazilian - I had her as a newborn and she's as tame as any cat or dog. Utterlly lovely, sweet, and never lost her glorious shine. but I had to give her to a friend when i moved to the UK. She's flourishing, though, I've visited her since and she's still lovely!

I don’t know how your girls do it. I can not even come close to a snake and I just freak out. The unfortunate part of having fish is that they are usually kept in the reptile department and I can’t go in and look. The staff at the one pet shop I like walk around the store with the snakes on their neck. They say people learn this way and they sell more. I usually go running out of the store screaming in panic. It is a phobia. Half the time I do not even know the snakes are out and I ask the girl at the front and she says it is ok to go back. Then all of a sudden there usually appears a girl with a snake and they are actually lucky nothing has ever got damaged in my running for the door. Now I ask at the till to bring my supplies to the front and I don’t go into the store to look anymore.

 

Well, they really are quite lovely and docile animals, but that's no help when you have a phobia. Anyway, as long as you aren't violent to snakes, being afriad of them hurts nobody - it's not like being afriad of the dark, or of strangers, or something that is going to effect your life drastically! As long as the staff of your pet store are willing to serve you at the counter, that is. If it were something you really wanted to overcome, I'd suggest just looking at the baby snakes.

 

i used to do work experience at a zoo where they kept the snakes. from this i saw how many people freaked out over them and it made me sad!

their approach to getting the public to meet the snakes are awesome.

someone stands and talks and explains about them (and yea that would be me at times) and we discussed the irrational fears. the snakes were held around the arms, NEVER on the neck - as you cant control them properly that way - and at the end of the talk - if people wanted to touch them they could, if not, then that was also fine.

some people with serious phobias just managing to sit in a room with a live snake and appreciate them was good enough for me

I am scared of most snakes but they fascinate me. I have had many as pets, mainly corn and rat snakes that my dad would find. He had 3 gorgeous pythons... the really big ones but they all died. One died due to choking, one to illness, and the biggest one died because they just didn't have the money to take care of it and it starved... they tried giving her away but no one wanted a 10+ foot snake.

It wasn't my families choice to get the snakes in the first place, a family friend was going through rough times and had my parents watch his menagerie of animals (rats, mice, snakes, geckos, hamsters, ferrets, lizards, frogs, salamanders.... the list goes on). My parents ran themselves into the ground taking care of the beasts for the guy. Well he dropped off the planet and his parents weren't even in contact with him so they told my folks to either keep or sell the animals. They sold what they could but they were stuck with the snakes, rats, and mice. They thought that was a great arrangement since at least the snakes would have food... until the damned food got free and my parents couldn't afford new rats.

 

That's really sad - glad they tried to help, though.

I already learned how to breath my ears a long time ago that's how I got the nickname Old Provert . That is probably why I'm deaf wife can hit some really high notes.

I have 2 dogs....Belita is a 6yr old peekapoo and Shadow is a 9yr old Black lab/Golden Reteiver/Saint Benard mix

 

Saddly, my home isnt suitable for dogs and Im not home enough to be fair to a dog. But if I were living a different life I would have one of these great beasts. Bernese mountain dogs I have never met one with a bad attitude or a mean bone.

 

I have a DLH Black Cat named Fredrika, a DSh Black Cat named Minou, a Akita/Border Collie Dog named Zappa Artard Thunderchunk, and a Short haired mutt with blue eyes named Gazelle.

 

we have 3 death row cats...they were saved on the day they were about to be given their last needle......:excited:
