It's about fuckin' time, I doubt this will be enough, Qaddafi needs to be the target SOON.

 

According to the radio news here earlier, French jets have fired the first shots, destroying a Libyan amoured vehicule on the ground, so that info regarding a missile strike would seem consistant with that.

 

Somebody needs to get their facts straight....He did not declare war on Libya. The US along with other countries are imposing a no fly zone in order for the Libyan rebels to have a chance to win there freedom from Tierney and oppression.

War monger...hardly. Things are progressing in a very particular order to ensure civilians and rebels are ultimately protected the best they can be. Strikes were from American aircraft carriers and subs along with British war ships against Gad's missle systems. I have problems with Obama here at home, but his handling of our policies pertaining to oversea conflict have been what they need to be. For those that think he has been slow in acting, you need to remember what happens when we rush in with little thought and less intelligence info.

The 'no-fly zone' should of been enacted a couple of weeks ago. You need minimal intelligence for that, essentially satellite pictures, and a few well paid snitches. War on the other hand is a different animal.

The article stated that the assault was on Libyan air defenses at more than 20 targets along the coast and the mission has two goals (in bold on the bottom):...

...the first phase of a missile assault on Libyan air defenses, firing 112 Tomahawk cruise missiles at more than 20 targets along the coast.

Saturday's mission was aimed at clearing the way for imposition of a European-led no-fly zone over the North African country.

Navy Vice Adm. William E. Gortney, director of the Pentagon's Joint Staff, told reporters the Tomahawk cruise missiles were fired from one British submarine and a number of American destroyers and subs. He said they hit more than 20 air defense sites along the Mediterranean coastline. He said the success of the mission was not immediately clear, adding that additional attacks would commence later.

Gortney said the mission has two goals: prevent further attacks by Libyan forces on rebels and other civilians, and degrade the Libyan military's ability to contest a no-fly zone.

It seems interesting that France is leading this establishment of a no fly zone over Libya.

While I believe this should have happened long ago, in 1985, when the US
struck Libya, France would not allow the US to use their airspace for this attack, which killed a family member and took a chunk out of Qaddafi himself.

How does the board feel about what Qaddafi will do, will he run or die fighting?

 

I thought the only thing the French could lead was a full retreat.

 

I didn't say the French were tardy, I said we weren't going in before them. We aren't to be the ones this time accused of pushing war. It had to be our allies acting first.
