Nonsense. There are clear limits on the authority granted by the U.N. Furthermore, Obama is in no position to wage "full out war" without the approval of Congress. He's on an extremely short leash. He took the actions he took to prevent a bloodbath.

Having said that, I do not agree with the way this is being handled.

And anyone who thinks this is just about oil is about a half bubble off plum. Lybian oil has been embargoed since the 80's. Besides, you have to be pretty short sighted not to know how much mid-east oil impacts our national security.

 

Hopefully we ''only'' spend about $4-5 billion on this at the highest. France wanted this in the worst way, and I hope France will take over and the U.S. will step back real soon, within days.. Congress wont let Obama go much further into this, and I dont think Obama wants to go any further.

Agreed, but he must reach safe haven first. It is the time between his leaving and arriving in a secure area that is his greatest risk. Besides the fact that some who would normally harbor him will not, due to political pressure from other countries.

But you are correct. There is always somewhere to go, such as Iran. But he has to get there, and if he loses this fight, everyone will be searching for him at all possible checkpoints.

Just came back from lunch in Harvard Square. Walked past Out of Town News and through Harvard Yard, on the way back to my cubicle. And noticed a curious absence.

The last time "war monger" and "blood for oil" were used in a debate of this sort, George W. Bush went into Iraq on the rails of Congressional approval and 17 UN Resolutions.

The boy in charge has just gone into Libya, with one UN Resolution, and one memo to Congress, after the fact, whilst on vacation.

Barrack Osama is weak and can't make a decission. He waited for over 10 days, gave time to Gadaffi to regroup and attack and maintain his status. Osama's, sorry Obama's spokesman said time and again that they had no intantions of fighting Libya. Here we are 10 days later, after he measured the pulse of the world and US, after he was asured that he would not lose votes or sympathy, he acted. Not really a presidential characteristic.

 

Gadaffi is like a condom we don't want it breaking before we are done. The 10 days are like foreplay, it's ok to just jump in but we like a little stimulation too. Like sex there will be a lot of hard pounding but in the end it will be worth it.
